Classic animated films return to theaters.

TPO - Animated films associated with the childhood of many generations of Vietnamese viewers will return to the big screen in the Vietnam-Sweden Children's Film Week taking place in Hanoi. Among them are many works by the late artist and People's Artist Ngo Manh Lan - one of the great names in Vietnamese animation.

Animated films that were a part of the childhood of many generations of Vietnamese viewers will return to the big screen as part of the Vietnam-Sweden Children's Film Week, taking place from June 1-5 at Ngoc Khanh Cinema, Vietnam Film Institute (523 Kim Ma, Hanoi ). Among them, a series of works by the late artist and People's Artist Ngo Manh Lan – one of the great names in Vietnamese animation – will also be screened as a highlight of the week.

The Vietnam-Sweden Children's Film Week, organized by the Vietnam Film Institute in collaboration with the Swedish Embassy, ​​aims to introduce outstanding children's films from both countries and expand cultural exchange through the language of cinema. The program is also expected to contribute to cultivating aesthetic appreciation, nurturing imagination, and encouraging creativity in children.

During this event, audiences can enjoy 14 films, including 3 Swedish films and 11 Vietnamese animated films. All films shown during the week are suitable for audiences under 16 years old.

The film week opened on the morning of June 1st at Ngoc Khanh Cinema (Vietnam Film Institute) with an inaugural screening featuring two films representing children's cinema from Vietnam and Sweden: *The Fox Gets What He Deserves* (directed by Le Minh Hien) and *Pippi Longstocking * (directed by Olle Hellbom).

In the Vietnamese film category, the film week marks the return of works by the late artist and People's Artist Ngo Manh Lan. Of the 11 Vietnamese animated films presented, five of his works were selected for screening throughout the program, creating a journey back to the legacy of one of the pioneering figures of Vietnamese animation. The series of films by the late artist begins on June 2nd with two works: The Story of Giong (1970) and The Kitten (1965). Following that, on June 4th, audiences will see a re-screening of The Toad (1993) and The Miracle of Resurrection (1995). Before the film week concludes, audiences will enjoy The Talking Magpie (1967) on June 5th.

Alongside the films of People's Artist Ngo Manh Lan is a diverse picture of Vietnamese animation across generations, through works such as "The Fox Gets What He Deserves" by director Le Minh Hien (opening screening on June 1st) - one of the first animated works in Vietnam, "The Great Emperor's Journey" (2021), "The Spoiled Chicken Feather ", "Neighbors" , "The Caterpillar Turns into a Butterfly" , "The Warm Lamp" (all produced in 2024)...

Alongside that is a series of children's films from Sweden, featuring three adaptations of famous literary works: Pippi Longstocking by director Olle Hellbom (opening on June 1st), Ronja - The Bandit's Daughter by director Tage Danielsson (June 3rd), and The Lion Brothers by Olle Hellbom (June 5th).

Besides film screenings, the program also expands cultural experiences for children. On the opening day, June 1st, as part of the program, Kim Dong Publishing House also introduced the Vietnamese edition of the four-volume comic book series about the little girl Pippi Longstocking. Along with that, there was a quiz activity revolving around the movie Pippi Longstocking , creating a space connecting literature, film, and games for children on the occasion of International Children's Day on June 1st.
