On January 7th: Google Data Restore Tool, an app that helps recover data from old phones, experienced a similar issue. The app did not appear in the "Installed" list and could only be updated via a direct link from the Play Store.

June 2nd: This issue was first reported. System app updates were not showing up on the "Downloading" screen, even though other apps were updating normally. Users had to go to the specific app list in the Play Store to manually update.

On July 11th: Google Partner Setup, an essential application for devices running Google Mobile Services (GMS), also experienced issues with not displaying updates. Although this application is crucial for ensuring the proper functioning of Android devices, users still had to access the Play Store listing directly to update. Notably, devices running Android 7 or older did not receive the update for this application.

April 9th ​​and October 13th: The issue continued with the YouTube app, one of the pre-installed apps on many devices. Users received notifications about a new update, but upon checking, no app appeared in the "Downloading" list. However, when accessing the YouTube app directly on the Play Store, the "Update" option was still present and available.

Causes and solutions

This issue could be due to a system error or a change in how the Google Play Store handles updates for system-level apps. One theory is that Google is expanding the way it automatically updates system apps, similar to how Google Play Services is updated implicitly through the Play Store, without showing up in the "Downloading" section.

If you have turned off automatic updates, this may cause system apps to never receive the latest version. Users must proactively check through other sources or directly access the app list in the Play Store to update manually.
