Comrade Le Quoc Minh, Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, and Chairman of the Final Judging Council, exchanged views at the working session.

According to journalist Do Thi Thu Hang, Standing Committee member and Head of the Professional Affairs Department of the Vietnam Journalists Association, the first National Journalism Award "For the Development of Culture, Sports and Tourism" was launched on December 26, 2022. Since its launch, the award has received a positive response from journalists and members of the Vietnam Journalists Association nationwide.

By the deadline for submitting entries (July 10, 2023, postmark date), the Secretariat and Synthesis Subcommittee had received a total of 1084 entries. This is a large number of entries, especially for a journalism award organized in its first year. This demonstrates the high level of interest from journalists and the public in the fields of culture, sports, and tourism. The Secretariat and Synthesis Subcommittee reviewed, screened, and disqualified 51 entries that violated the requirements of the award regulations.

The preliminary judging panel consisted of five subcommittees: Print Journalism, Online Journalism, Radio, Television, and Photojournalism, to evaluate 1033 eligible entries. From July 25th to August 14th, 2023, based on the judging regulations, the subcommittees of the preliminary judging panel conducted independent, objective, transparent assessments and focused, thorough, and impartial discussions to select the most outstanding journalistic works for the final round. The preliminary judging process was carried out promptly, seriously, strictly, and in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the judging process.

The selection includes 5 A prizes, 15 B prizes, 25 C prizes, and 50 consolation prizes (Figure 2).

The council members discuss and evaluate the entries.

After three weeks of evaluation, discussion, and judging, the preliminary judging panel selected 131 outstanding works to be presented to the final judging panel, distributed according to journalistic genre. Specifically, 35 works were selected from print media; 30 from online media; 20 from radio; 30 from television; and 16 from photojournalism.

According to the preliminary judging panel, the entries for the Award were not only numerous and diverse in subject matter, but also of high professional quality, attracting many large and small media outlets at both the central and local levels. The works closely adhered to major themes, vividly reflecting important events of 2022-2023 in the fields of culture, sports, tourism, and family.

Several prominent topics have attracted the attention of many author groups, such as: Policies and major issues concerning cultural revival and development of the country's culture, reviving the noble and sacred values of the Vietnamese people; commemorating the 80th anniversary of the promulgation of the Vietnamese Cultural Outline; policies in state work on heritage; issues concerning the preservation, conservation, and promotion of national and regional cultural heritage such as: the Vietnamese language, the Vietnamese ao dai, Hue court literature, Then singing, Thai Xoe dance, folk songs, and traditional Southern Vietnamese music...

Examples of excellence in high-performance sports, mass sports, and sports for people with disabilities. Policies for the restoration and development of tourism in localities after the COVID-19 pandemic. Criticism of bad habits and vices, analysis of the negative aspects of social media in cultural, family, and behavioral issues. Identifying difficulties, obstacles, and inadequacies in various aspects of cultural, sports, tourism, and family work, thereby proposing innovative solutions to improve the effectiveness of state management, and calling on the whole society to work together to resolve them…

The selection includes 5 A prizes, 15 B prizes, 25 C prizes, and 50 consolation prizes (Figure 3).

Comrade Le Quoc Minh stated that the award reflected many issues, from macro issues concerning the Party and State's policies and cultural guidelines, to issues with a grand vision, as well as very specific issues.

Sharing his thoughts at the meeting, Comrade Le Quoc Minh stated: "In the context of the Party and the State's constant attention to cultural issues, the establishment of the National Journalism Award 'For the Development of Culture, Sports and Tourism' is very necessary. And in its first edition, with over 1,000 entries, we consider it quite successful. We were also surprised by the relatively high number of television entries compared to online newspapers and photojournalism, which shows the interest of media agencies, especially television stations, in the award..."

Regarding the content of the entries, Comrade Le Quoc Minh stated that the competition reflected a wide range of issues, from macro-level issues concerning the Party and State's policies, cultural guidelines, and issues with a grand vision, to very specific issues in various fields of sports, culture, and tourism.

However, the Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association noted that this year's competition only attracted participation from a few large media organizations, with the number of local media outlets still limited. Although the number of entries was quite large, they were concentrated in only a few organizations. We hope that in the future there will be broader participation from both local and central media organizations.

The selection includes 5 A prizes, 15 B prizes, 25 C prizes, and 50 consolation prizes (Figure 4).

Comrade Le Quoc Minh gave an interview to the press about the first National Journalism Award "For the Cause of Developing Culture, Sports and Tourism".

"We hope that future events will receive more journalistic works that can propose solutions and suggest directions for the development of the fields of culture, sports, and tourism," Comrade Le Quoc Minh emphasized.

From the shortlisted entries, the Council discussed, evaluated, and voted to select 5 A prizes, 15 B prizes, 25 C prizes, and 50 Consolation prizes to award the first National Journalism Award "For the Development of Culture, Sports and Tourism". In addition, a collective award will be given to 3 media organizations with the most entries and highest results.
