Rice field tourism, where visitors can admire the rice paddies and participate in farming activities with the people of Hoi An, has long been an attractive tour offered by many travel agencies.
From the beginning of the year until the peak of the tourist season, the concrete roads through the rice fields in Hoi An are at their busiest.
Most visitors come from European countries, Australia, etc. Besides admiring the endless stretches of lush green rice fields, the fragrant scent of young rice plants just beginning to sprout also delights tourists.
From early morning, groups of tourists cycle along the fields outside Hoi An Old Town, following the guidance of their guides, to visit the rice paddies.
Hoi An city has long identified agricultural tourism and exploring rice fields as a way to attract tourists and generate additional income for the community.
Rice paddies in Hoi An have been prohibited from being converted to other uses by the authorities, in order to preserve the peaceful atmosphere of the town.
Besides admiring the rice fields, many tourists are also delighted to see the plump, fragrant buffaloes being led out to the fields by their owners to graze peacefully.
To get a photo of themselves smiling with a buffalo or riding on its back, tourists have to pay 20,000 - 50,000 VND to the buffalo herder.
According to statistics, the number of tourists visiting Hoi An is increasing again, after a long period of disruption due to COVID-19.
Since the Lunar New Year, approximately 300,000 visitors have toured the Old Quarter, a 35% increase compared to the same period last year. This increase in visitors has led to a rise in accommodation, with average room occupancy exceeding 60%.
