While all eyes are on the breakthrough of the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) on the Pokrovsk front, no less interesting events are taking place in the Konstantinovka area. According to Russian sources, the shock troops of the RFAF Southern Group of Forces have reached the highway connecting the cities of Kostiantynivka and Druzhkovka, threatening to cut off the supply of Ukrainian units in Konstantinovka. According to some local residents, Russian troops are already present on some sections of the highway to Kramatorsk, which is the main supply route for the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) in the city. In fact, RFAF assault units are currently less than ten kilometers from the highway to Kramatorsk. If the conditions are right, the Russian troops could cross in a maximum of two days.
Rybar channel said that this route is one of the “last safe” routes, connecting the Ukrainian group of troops in the area of the city of Konstantinovka, with the Kramatorsk-Slavyansk region. Cutting this route would mean encircling the Ukrainian group of troops in Konstantinovka. The reason is that this is the last route for Ukraine to organize supplies and rotate troops smoothly, although it is currently blocked by RFAF fire. But only when RFAF directly cuts off this route, then they will truly be completely “siege” the Kostiantynivka area. Of course, the Ukrainian troops in Kostiantynivka will try to open new supply routes across the fields, but it will be difficult, with Russian UAVs “flying” in the sky. Losing this route will really isolate the Ukrainian garrison, and the AFU is trying to delay this event by all means possible, but the RFAF General Staff does not seem to have used its full potential either. However, the Russian control of the settlements of Poltavka and Rusin Yar on the salient towards Konstantinovka significantly complicated the situation for the Ukrainian defense units in this direction. It can be said that this is an important bridgehead, allowing the RFAF to block all supplies from Kramatorsk-Slavyansk to Kostiantynivka.
According to the Military Chronicle, along with tightening the siege and blocking supplies to the Ukrainian army in the city of Kostiantynivka, the RFAF has begun to focus on destroying AFU units entrenched in the village of Kleban-Byk. Here, the Ukrainian army is heavily attacked by Russian firepower, but they are still fiercely resisting. Currently, the village of Kleban-Byk is still under AFU control, while the area north of Yekaterinovka is in the gray zone. According to Russian sources and confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Defense , the remnants of the 12th Azov Brigade, part of the National Guard of Ukraine, are holding out in the village of Kleban-Byk and south of the Kleban-Byk reservoir. It is clear that they will not surrender. The Rvvoenkory channel reported that the day before, units of the RFAF Southern Group had destroyed up to a platoon of troops of the Azov Brigade with artillery fire and FPV UAVs. In addition, an AFU UAV control station was also destroyed there. According to the Rvvoenkory channel, citing a source from a unit of the Southern Army Group, the Russian reconnaissance UAV operators identified an AFU UAV control station and two shelters, plus a large number of troops of the Azov Brigade.
The target coordinates were immediately transmitted to the 152mm Msta-B howitzer positions, followed by a heavy artillery barrage covering the target. The RFAF then used FPV UAVs to hunt for small targets that had not been destroyed by the artillery and completed the final mission. As a result, an Azov platoon was eliminated from the battle. The Geroman channel reported the situation on the northeastern flank of Konstantinovka as follows: it seems that the next operational goal of the Russian army after the collapse of the Chasov Yar fortress is to destroy the defense lines northwest of the city and then capture the area marked in yellow near the main supply line, to create a scenario similar to Pokrovsk. Previously, it was reported that the determination of the AFU General Staff to hold the city of Konstantinovka could lead to the creation of a giant encirclement, causing the entire city to fall into the “cauldron” created by the RFAF. And it is easy to see that the RFAF is continuing to create a pincer-like siege of Kostiantynivka.
Currently, Ukrainian troops are still trying to escape from the area south of the Kleban-Byk reservoir towards the city of Kostiantynivka, but with great difficulty; as Russian units to the west and east of the reservoir are not allowing Ukrainian troops to withdraw. Meanwhile, attempts to withdraw across the lake are being blocked by Russian UAVs. (photo source Military Review, Ukrinform, Rvvoenkory).
