The number of foreign visitors to Thailand since the beginning of the year has exceeded 23 million, generating revenue of about 981.69 billion baht (about 27.65 billion USD) for the Land of Golden Pagodas.

According to data from the Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports , as of November 12, Thailand had welcomed 23,241,338 foreign visitors; the largest number of visitors were from its southern neighbor Malaysia with 3,824,445, followed by China with 2,902,462, South Korea with 1,375,958, India with 1,354,712 and Russia with 1,170,203.

According to Thailand's Minister of Tourism and Sports Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, there were 611,121 foreign visitors to Thailand during the week of November 6-12, equivalent to 87,303 visitors/day.

According to the Marketing Director of the Thai Hotels Association, the visa exemption may become more evident in the second quarter of 2024 as more corporations and tourists choose Thailand for this entry privilege.

Ms. Sudawan pointed out that this figure is 9.61% higher than the average of 53,567 visits/day of the previous week.

Minister Sudawan attributed the influx of tourists to Thailand last week to the Diwali celebrations in Malaysia and Singapore. The number of visitors from Malaysia increased to 49,919, up 28.65% from the previous week.

Thai authorities hope to welcome more international tourists next week, thanks to increased flights and cooler weather as the country officially welcomes winter from November 14.

Minister Sudawan said visa exemptions for tourists from China, Kazakhstan and India, as well as longer-term visas for Russians, would help increase the number of tourists coming to Thailand before the end of the year.
