Since her days as an athlete, Nguyen Thi Anh Vien has always been deeply troubled and sleepless whenever she reads news about children dying from drowning. The swimmer from Can Tho has never stopped thinking about how to help more people learn to swim, especially children. Therefore, after retiring from competitive swimming, the "little mermaid" established a swimming club with the desire to spread her love of swimming to everyone.

Ánh Viên has a special interest in children. She revealed that she loves children, so teaching them to swim has been very easy for her. "When I teach and interact with the children, I find them very simple. If they swim well, they are happy and smile; if they don't, they are sad. That's why I feel happier every day," Ánh Viên confided.

Ánh Viên is always kind and caring towards her students.

Ánh Viên's affection for children is not only shown through her gentle, dedicated, and attentive instruction in swimming techniques. The swimmer from Can Tho also expresses her care for her young students in a very special way. According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Xuan (43 years old - whose child attends Ánh Viên Swimming Club), thanks to teacher Ánh Viên, her child enjoys swimming more, has shown positive changes in personality, and has also improved their daily habits.

"Occasionally, my child excitedly tells me that Ms. Anh Vien just bought her bubble tea. On holidays or anniversaries, Ms. Anh Vien often takes the children out for ice cream, bubble tea, and gifts. For example, on March 8th, instead of the children giving her gifts, she treats them to bubble tea. Kids love receiving gifts and treats from their teacher. I think these things make the children more excited and motivated to go to swimming lessons," Ms. Xuan said.

Even small acts of kindness from Ánh Viên are filled with love and make the children love their teacher even more. The ice cream and bubble tea she makes herself, though not extravagant in material terms, become incredibly sweet to the children (in terms of emotional well-being) when given at the right time and place. From this, the former swimmer gains the trust of parents, making teaching swimming to children much easier, as the children feel comfortable and trust their teacher.

Ms. Xuan said that initially, although her son knew how to swim, he didn't really enjoy the sport. Therefore, whenever he was tired or lazy, he would make excuses to "skip" swimming lessons. But since transferring to Anh Vien's swimming club, thanks to the encouragement and motivation from the instructors, her son has gradually grown to love swimming more. "Before, he would always make excuses when it was time for swimming lessons, but now he automatically prepares his swimsuit. He prepares his uniform on his own without needing reminders and goes swimming happily, not feeling forced," Ms. Xuan recounted.

After nearly a year of swimming lessons at Ánh Viên's club, Ms. Xuân's son is now in the gifted class. What Ms. Xuân hopes for here is that her son will receive proper instruction from the teachers. She proudly shared: "Currently, he swims very well. However, I don't intend for him to pursue a professional career, even though Ms. Ánh Viên says he has talent. After having him learn here, I see that the teachers are very caring towards their students. As for skills, there's not much to say; with Ms. Ánh Viên, there's no need to discuss it further. I see my son making significant progress. The young teachers are very enthusiastic with the children and understand each child's individual needs."

The coaches at Anh Vien Swimming Club are all very dedicated to the children.

Ms. Xuan added: "Swimming is also a necessary skill for children to keep themselves safe later in life. Because drowning incidents are quite frequent these days, I'm quite worried. Later, when they grow up, they can play with friends, or if an accident happens, they will know how to handle it. Soft skills are very important, especially swimming. Because knowing how to swim not only helps oneself but also allows one to help others, to save others, while ensuring one's own safety."
