On May 31st, at the Khăn Quàng Đỏ swimming pool ( Hanoi ), the Central Youth Union Council, in coordination with the Vietnam Youth Support Center, organized the opening ceremony of the "Learning to Swim with Children" program for 2026 and free swimming lessons for children.

This program is an activity in response to the Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign and the Month of Action for Children 2026, implementing the directive of the Central Committee of the Youth Union in Document No. 8003 - CV/TWĐTN-CTTTN dated May 25, 2026, on strengthening the prevention and control of drowning among children.

Mr. Nguyen Thien Tu – Director of the Vietnam Youth Support Center – emphasized that the "Learning to Swim with Children" program, which includes free swimming lessons, is a meaningful community activity for children during the summer. In addition, the Center always has a program specifically for children and members of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers Organization, where the ticket price is kept lower than other swimming pools to make it easier for them to participate in swimming lessons.

Anh Tú shared that in the coming time, the Center will continue to coordinate with the Central Youth Council to organize more free swimming classes and preferential programs for young people during the summer. The Director of the Vietnam Youth Center also hopes that parents will create conditions for their children to maintain regular swimming, helping to prevent the skills from fading and improving their health in the future.

At the event, the organizers presented 30 meaningful gifts to encourage underprivileged students to participate in the free swimming lessons.

Free swimming lessons

The free swimming course took place from June 1st to June 11th, consisting of 10 rigorous lessons. Thirty children aged 8-15 from disadvantaged backgrounds in Ngoc Ha, Ba Dinh, and Tay Ho wards (Hanoi) participated in the free swimming class.

Dao Gia Khang (class 3A7, Hoang Hoa Tham Primary School) shared, "When summer comes, we all love to go swimming and immerse ourselves in the cool water. However, due to difficult family circumstances, many of us haven't had the opportunity to learn to swim properly. When we received the announcement about this free swimming class, we were very happy."

On behalf of the class, Khang promised to attend all classes regularly and on time, practice diligently, and strictly adhere to all rules to ensure safety. "We are determined to do our best so that by the end of the course, 100% of the participants will be able to swim proficiently," Khang said.

Right from the opening ceremony, the children were briefed on the rules to ensure maximum safety. Accordingly, the students must strictly follow the instructor's instructions: from showering and wearing the correct swimwear to undergoing health checks before entering the water. The training schedule is scientifically arranged from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM daily to ensure the children's health in the hot weather conditions.

The "Learning to Swim with Children" program is not just a skills class; it also spreads a message about the concern of the whole society for the safety of young children. On this occasion, the Vietnam Youth Support Center also announced many preferential policies for members of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers Organization when registering for monthly swimming passes, aiming to create a beneficial and healthy physical training playground for young people during the summer. Specifically, when registering for a monthly pass, children will receive an additional 5 swimming sessions at a discounted price (1.3 million VND for children under 1.3m and 1.6 million VND for children 1.3m and above).
