Following the announcement of the new iMac and Mac mini product lines, Apple continued to release a new line of MacBook Pro models with 14-inch versions running the M4 chip and 14-inch and 16-inch versions running the high-end M4 Pro and M4 Max chips.

With the M4 chip version: this update brings a more powerful M4 chip, a minimum of 16GB of RAM (previously only 8GB), and a Thunderbolt port. The M4 chip, with its 10 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores, is known to deliver powerful performance for users.
Similar to the new iMac model, the 14-inch MacBook Pro has a minimum of 16GB of RAM, with users having up to 32GB of RAM to choose from, and internal storage ranging from 512GB to 2TB.
The device features an optional nano-texture display with a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits, a new 12MP Center Stage camera, and up to 24 hours of battery life.
Along with the Silver color option, Apple has also added a Space Black color option to the base 14-inch model – a color previously exclusive to the higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.
The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models using the high-end M4 Pro and M4 Max chips will have a minimum of 23GB of RAM (up from 18GB in the previous generation). They all feature three Thunderbolt 5 ports, offering speeds up to 120 Gb/s – three times the maximum bandwidth of Thunderbolt 4.
Additionally, it supports native DisplayPort 2.1 output over USB-C. Thunderbolt 5 is fully compatible with USB4 and supports advanced protocols such as PCIe 4.0, enabling faster data access speeds for storage devices and peripherals.
The M4 Pro chip features a 14-core CPU with 10 high-performance cores and 4 high-efficiency cores, along with a 20-core GPU, delivering double the performance of the M4. Models using the M4 Pro chip will offer 75% more memory bandwidth than the previous generation and up to three times faster performance than models using the M1 Pro chip.
The M4 Max version boasts up to 16 CPU cores and a 40-core GPU, making it three times faster than the M1 Max. According to Apple, MacBooks using the M4 Max offer 3.5 times the performance of the M1 Max. This processor also supports up to 128 GB of RAM.
The 14-inch/16-inch models using the M4 Pro/M4 Max chip will feature a Liquid Retina XDR display, an optional nano anti-glare coating, a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits for SDR content, and a 12MP Center Stage camera. The M4 Pro offers up to 22 hours of battery life, while the M4 Max boasts up to 18 hours.
The new MacBook Pro models all feature HDMI ports supporting resolutions up to 8K. The M4 Pro version supports up to three 6K displays at 60Hz via Thunderbolt or HDMI. The M4 Max version supports up to three external displays at 6K resolution at 60Hz via Thunderbolt and one external display at up to 4K resolution at 144Hz via HDMI.
These new laptops all feature an SDXC card slot, a MagSafe 3 port for charging and a headphone jack, along with support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. Both the MacBook Pro M4 Pro and M4 Max models are available in Space Black and Silver.
