For the people in the communes near the Hung Kings Historical Site, preparing offerings to pay tribute to the Hung Kings has become a beautiful tradition that has been maintained for many years.
Each family has its own way of preparing, selecting dishes, and arranging them, but the common point is that banh chung and banh day (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes) are indispensable in the ancestral worship meal, because these two products are associated with the legend of Prince Lang Liêu's filial piety during the reign of King Hung VI.

A traditional Vietnamese meal wouldn't be complete without banh chung and banh day (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes).
Sticky rice cakes (bánh chưng and bánh dày) symbolize heaven and earth. Plain rice (cơm tẻ) also originated from King Hung teaching the people how to cultivate rice. The presence of both sticky rice and plain rice in the feast symbolizes the complete and harmonious balance of yin and yang.
The Ancestor Commemoration meal serves as a reminder to future generations to show respect and gratitude to their ancestors who contributed to the founding of the nation.
"Encouraging families to prepare meals to express gratitude for the merits of King Hung has promoted the role of the community in preserving and promoting the value of the Hung King worshiping belief heritage," a leader of Hy Cuong commune said.
