Maresca (left) has reached an agreement to manage Man City, replacing Guardiola. |
British media outlets have unanimously confirmed that Guardiola will leave Manchester City after the match against Aston Villa at the Etihad on May 24th. At the same time, "The Citizens" are already preparing for Guardiola's departure by completing the final steps to bring Maresca back to the Etihad.
The Italian manager quickly reached an agreement with the Manchester club. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano used the familiar phrase "Here we go" to confirm the deal was complete. Maresca will sign a three-year contract with Man City.
Maresca is no stranger to Man City. Before managing Chelsea, Maresca worked directly under Guardiola during the 2022/23 season that saw them win the historic treble.
Maresca made a strong impression at Chelsea, helping the team qualify for the Champions League, and win the Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Guardiola himself once publicly declared him "one of the best coaches in the world ".
Meanwhile, Guardiola will conclude his glorious journey spanning nearly a decade at Man City. Since arriving at Etihad in 2016, the Spanish strategist has brought home 20 major titles, including six Premier League titles and the club's first-ever Champions League victory.
Now, Etihad is preparing to witness the biggest power transition in years as Maresca faces the task of inheriting the vast legacy left behind by Guardiola.
