The launching ceremony of the Global Network for Teaching Vietnamese Language and Culture & the introduction of the book series “Learning Vietnamese for Fun” was held both in-person and online on September 29.
Urgent need and timely initiative
In the context of more than 6 million Vietnamese people living in more than 130 countries and territories, preserving the Vietnamese language is becoming increasingly urgent. In reality, the young generation born and raised abroad faces the risk of gradually losing their mother tongue and lacking connection with their national cultural roots. Many overseas Vietnamese families want their children to learn Vietnamese but face difficulties due to a lack of teachers, standardized materials and appropriate methods.
According to Mr. Nguyen Duy Anh, member of the Fatherland Front, Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Fukuoka, Secretary General of the Network, the three core goals of the network include: preserving and developing the Vietnamese language as an unchanging symbol of national identity; Connecting the global Vietnamese community, arousing pride and solidarity; Promoting the image of a modern, friendly, and traditional Vietnam to the world .
The network will operate under a professional structure including a General Coordinating Board, an Advisory Board, specialized Boards and a national focal point system. On a digital platform, the network aims for a “borderless” model, organizing online classes, building an electronic learning resource warehouse, organizing international conferences and connecting teachers across five continents.
In her opening speech, Consul General of Vietnam in Fukuoka, Ms. Vu Chi Mai, affirmed: “Vietnamese is not only a language, but also the soul of the nation, a bridge connecting generations of Vietnamese people living abroad with their homeland. The Network initiative was born from the desire to create a common home, where teachers and communities everywhere can share, support and together keep the Vietnamese language alive.”
Introducing the book series "Learn Vietnamese for fun"
An important highlight of the event was the launch of the book series “Learning Vietnamese with Fun”, compiled by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Thuyet and a group of authors. The book series is considered a valuable and friendly learning tool, helping overseas Vietnamese children learn Vietnamese more attractively and vividly.
Consul General Vu Chi Mai praised the authors for their intellectual and dedicated contributions, and affirmed that the book series will be an important foundation for teaching activities in the network.
Within the framework of the launching ceremony, the Global Network for Teaching Vietnamese Language and Culture signed a memorandum of understanding with the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) to coordinate research, training, teacher training and transfer of online teaching and learning technology. This is considered a practical step to enhance the application of technology, digitize documents and build an electronic learning resource warehouse.
The network also sets out key tasks for the coming time: Building a “Map of Vietnamese classes around the world” as a basis for planning support policies. Organizing international seminars and workshops connecting lecturers and experts. Strengthening cooperation with universities and research institutes at home and abroad to promote Vietnamese language teaching and research.
