Faced with the damage after the fire along Tau Hu canal in District 8, on April 8, Ms. Tran Kim Yen, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, and a working delegation visited, shared, and encouraged affected households.
The delegation presented a total of 55 million VND in support to 9 households affected by the fire. Specifically, 2 households with severe damage received 10 million VND each; 7 households with less damage received 5 million VND each.
Talking with the local authorities, Ms. Tran Kim Yen suggested that the ward pay attention to calculating solutions to overcome the consequences, stabilize people's lives, support administrative procedures for households whose documents were burned, and create conditions for people to redo them.
Currently, families affected by the fire have been provided with temporary accommodation and initial financial and essential support.
Earlier, at around 7:30 p.m. on April 1, a fire broke out in a wooden house located on the bank of Tau Hu Canal (between Nguyen Van Cu Bridge and Chu Y Bridge). Some residents tried to put out the fire but were unsuccessful. The fire spread to two wooden houses with corrugated iron roofs next door.
By 8:50 p.m., the fire was completely extinguished by firefighters and residents. The total burned area was 470 square meters. Specifically, 50 square meters of house number 206/1/18A burned completely; about 100/150 square meters of house number 206/1/18 burned; about 320 square meters of old wood material yard located behind the row of houses, right on the riverbank, burned.
