Medical staff enthusiastically donate blood at Luong Tai General Hospital. |
Early in the morning of February 3rd, at Luong Tai General Hospital, many medical staff lined up to register for blood donation. This was the first blood donation point, with the participation of medical staff from Luong Tai General Hospital, Gia Binh General Hospital, and private medical facilities in the surrounding area. Present early, Dr. Ngo Xuan Khuong, Head of the Planning, Operations, and Quality Management Department of Luong Tai General Hospital, said that he started donating blood in 2008 and has donated 27 times to date, sometimes participating up to 3 times a year. For him, blood donation stems from a professional responsibility and a deep understanding of the value of each unit of blood in saving patients' lives. Recalling a case of a ruptured ectopic pregnancy causing severe hemorrhagic shock requiring the rare AB blood type, Dr. Khuong said that he and his colleagues had to urgently mobilize donors to save the patient's life. Inspired by that experience, he volunteers to donate blood whenever he is healthy enough.
Having been involved in the movement for many years, Mr. Vu Van Vinh, residing in Luong Tai commune, has participated in blood donation 20 times, averaging twice a year. "Having witnessed many critically ill patients overcome life-threatening situations thanks to timely blood donations, I realize how meaningful blood donation is," Mr. Vinh shared.
On the morning of February 4th, at Bac Ninh General Hospital No. 2, a large number of medical staff continued to participate in the program. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tan, Head of the Gastroenterology Department, said this was his 10th time donating blood through the industry's program. According to Dr. Tan, blood shortages often occur at the end and beginning of the year, especially for rare blood types. “Currently, the Gastroenterology Department is treating a 62-year-old male patient with blood type AB who is suffering from severe gastrointestinal bleeding. Upon admission, the patient's red blood cell count was only 1.8 million cells/cm³. Thanks to receiving 4 units of blood totaling 1,400 ml, the patient's health has stabilized. Every unit of blood is incredibly precious to the patient,” Dr. Tan emphasized.
The movement spread rapidly.
This was also the first time the voluntary blood donation program of the health sector was organized at Bac Ninh Oncology Hospital, attracting a positive response from medical staff and the public. Mr. Ngo Duc Toan, a technician in the Radiotherapy Department of Bac Ninh Oncology Hospital, said that he has donated blood since he was a student, and has donated 10 times to date, including two direct blood donations to save critically ill patients.
| The overall results from the 8 blood donation points of the health sector in the first phase show that the initial target was 1,363 people, but there were 2,444 people who registered to participate, of which 2,354 were eligible to donate blood, reaching 173% of the plan, exceeding the target by 991 people. |
Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh Thuy, an employee at Bac Ninh Lung Hospital No. 1, who has the very rare AB Rh- blood type, also registered to donate blood for the first time in the industry's program. Meanwhile, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuoi, residing in Kep commune, decided to donate blood for the first time while caring for her husband being treated at the hospital. "Witnessing many patients needing blood for emergency treatment, I wanted to contribute a small part to help others," Ms. Tuoi shared. Mr. Nguyen Hong Dang, from Kha Son commune (Thai Nguyen province), who was in the hospital caring for his father, also did not hesitate to donate blood after hearing the announcement from the hospital's loudspeaker.
The combined results from 8 blood donation points in the first phase showed that the initial target was 1,363 people, but 2,444 people registered to participate, of which 2,354 were eligible to donate blood, reaching 173% of the plan and exceeding the target by 991 people. Many units achieved high rates, such as Tu Son General Hospital (351%), Thuan Thanh General Hospital (337%), and Yen Phong General Hospital (285%). In the first event, the blood donation point at Bac Ninh Oncology Hospital also achieved very encouraging results with a rate of 116%, exceeding the initial target by 41 people. This result shows that when the movement is organized systematically, effectively communicated, and with decisive participation, the spirit of compassion in the community is strongly awakened.
Speaking about the voluntary blood donation movement in Bac Ninh's health sector, Dr. To Thi Mai Hoa, Director of the Department of Health and Head of the Steering Committee for promoting, mobilizing, and organizing voluntary blood donation in the province's health sector, emphasized that this activity has been maintained for many years, continuously expanding in scale and number of participants, gradually becoming a beautiful cultural aspect among medical staff. The movement not only contributes to ensuring a blood supply for emergency care and treatment but also spreads a spirit of responsibility and sharing for the community throughout the sector and society.
It is understood that in the coming period, the provincial health sector will continue to promote propaganda work, innovate forms of mobilization suitable for each unit, link voluntary blood donation with emulation movements; and at the same time strengthen coordination with other sectors and localities to expand the number of participants, striving to maintain a stable and safe blood supply, better meeting the healthcare needs of the people.
According to Mr. Nguyen The Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society, the blood donation movement in the health sector has a strong ripple effect, is scientifically organized, and has outstanding effectiveness. Each year, the health sector contributes about 1/10 of the total of more than 50,000 units of blood in the entire province, becoming a model in the blood donation movement to save lives.
