HOW STRONG IS THE UNIVERSITY OF MALAYSIA TEAM?

In the inaugural TNSV International - THACO Cup, the University of Malaysia team brought a very strong lineup, comprised of players currently studying at universities in Malaysia. Notably, the majority of the players are competing in Amateur M3, a semi-professional league organized by Amateur Football PLT in Malaysia; from two clubs, UiTM United and MUFT. This is a league-style competition with home and away matches and 16 participating teams.

The University of Malaysia team players get to play football regularly.

This means that the players in the University of Malaysia team get to compete in 30 matches in a season. If they participate in training camps or friendly matches, this number is much higher. Therefore, the University of Malaysia team's battlefield prowess is truly formidable. Furthermore, the chosen head coach is Mohd Yazli Yahya, the manager of UiTM United. UiTM United is also a well-known team in the semi-professional league, with 13 major and minor titles. Their official social media page has over 26,000 followers and operates professionally.

The University of Malaysia team and their coaches are ready.

The players of the University of Malaysia team possess excellent physical fitness, ready to cope with the heat in Ho Chi Minh City. In fact, the team's leadership once suggested extending each match to 90 minutes, instead of the current 80 minutes.

According to coach Yahya, the quality of the players in the University of Malaysia team is quite similar. However, they still have a star player who can explode and make a difference at crucial moments. That is midfielder Zirky Bin Mohd Hafis, who previously played for the Selangor U.23 team. Selangor is one of the top teams in Malaysia, currently ranked second in the national league. In addition, the captain and attacking midfielder Haziq Ubaidillah is also highly regarded.

THE AMBITIONS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MALAYSIA TEAM

With such an impressive "CV," the University of Malaysia team is considered a strong contender for the 2025 THACO Cup International Student Sports Tournament. However, the team's vision extends even further. Coach Yahya shared with Thanh Nien newspaper : "This team was formed to prepare the University of Malaysia team for the Asian University Games in 2026. Malaysia will also be the host country for that tournament."

The Malaysian student player has a solid physique.

Coach Yahya stated that this is the first time many players have had the opportunity to compete in a high-quality student league. He will give many players in the squad a chance to assess their quality, test their chemistry, and evaluate the connection between veteran and new players.

Through this statement, we can see that the University of Malaysia team will likely rotate their squad frequently at the 2025 International Student Tournament - THACO Cup. For many teams, this is not easy. However, with a well-balanced squad and high-quality players, the University of Malaysia team will not only not face difficulties but will also be able to play more dynamically and explosively. Especially in short tournaments that often require playing on artificial turf, squad rotation is truly crucial.

Every student player dreams of the honor of participating in the 2026 Asian University Games. Therefore, all the players on the University of Malaysia team will certainly give their all to impress the head coach.

The University of Malaysia team is strong, but not without its challenges. Because their players are primarily accustomed to playing on natural grass, they may not perform at their best on the artificial turf of Ton Duc Thang University. The ball tends to bounce unevenly on artificial turf, which is not ideal for teams that prefer a fast-paced, intricate passing game like the University of Malaysia.
