After the spring rice harvest is complete, straw baling machines operate continuously in many fields in Ha Tinh province to collect the remaining straw. In a short time, the straw is baled into large bundles, helping to keep the fields clean and facilitating production for the next crop.

Mr. Nguyen Van Giao's family (Hong Ha village, Can Loc commune) owns 20 sao (approximately 2000 square meters) of rice fields. Previously, after each harvest, collecting the straw always took up a lot of the family's time and effort.

Mr. Nguyen Van Giao said: "Previously, after each harvest, we had to hire people to gather the straw or clean it up ourselves, which was very hard work. Since we got the straw baling machine, the fields are clean in a short time, saving labor, and we can even sell the straw for money."

Not only in Can Loc commune, but also in many other fields in Ha Tinh province, straw baling machines are operating at full capacity after the rice harvest. Mechanizing the straw collection process not only helps speed up land preparation for the new crop but also reduces straw burning, which causes environmental pollution.

Notably, after being collected, the straw bales are purchased by traders for use in agricultural production and livestock farming. Depending on the size, each bale of straw is priced between 10,000 and 15,000 VND, providing an additional source of income for farmers.

Mr. Nguyen Doan Giang (Kim Tan village, Hong Loc commune) said: "Previously, straw was mainly left in the fields or burned. Now, with straw baling machines, traders come directly to buy it, so people have more income, and the fields are cleaner."

According to the machine owners, the straw baling process is quite simple. The straw is drawn into the machine by a gear shaft, compressed into a block, and then automatically wrapped with string and knotted to form complete bales. On average, each machine can produce 80-100 bales of straw per hour, with each bale taking only about 1-2 minutes to complete.

After collection, straw becomes a raw material used in many fields such as mushroom cultivation, animal feed production, and organic fertilizer manufacturing.

Utilizing these agricultural by-products is considered a suitable approach in the development of circular agriculture, contributing to the reduction of environmental pollution in rural areas.

Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Duyen, Deputy Head of the Crop Production Department (Ha Tinh Provincial Department of Crop Production and Livestock), said: “Farmers cleaning their fields early has created a proactive approach to successfully implementing the summer-autumn crop. Using straw baling machines to collect and reuse straw brings many practical benefits. It not only reduces straw burning, which causes environmental pollution, but also contributes to increasing the value of agricultural by-products and boosting people's income.”

From the fields after the harvest, straw baling machines are gradually changing the straw handling practices of people in Ha Tinh province. Straw is being utilized effectively, protecting the environment while bringing practical economic value to farmers.
