The intense heatwave has caused a surge in electricity demand nationwide. On May 25th, Quang Ninh province's electricity load reached a new record high for 2026, surpassing even the peak operating level of 2025.

According to Quang Ninh Power Company, the load capacity on May 25th reached 1,252.1MW, an increase of 5.6% compared to the previous peak load capacity of 1,186MW in 2025.

Not only in Quang Ninh, but also in the North, the power capacity has set a new record at 27,955 MW. Power capacity in the Central and Southern regions was recorded at 5,380 MW and 22,109 MW respectively.

The main reason is the widespread heatwave occurring in Northern and Central Vietnam, with many areas experiencing intense to extremely intense heat with temperatures commonly ranging from 36-40°C, and in some places exceeding 40°C. This has led to a significant increase in electricity demand for household use, cooling, services, commerce, and production and business. The heatwave is forecast to continue until May 27-28.

In the context of extremely high electricity demand, Quang Ninh Power Company recommends that people and businesses use electricity economically and efficiently, especially during peak hours of hot weather; invest in and install rooftop solar power for self-production and self-consumption...
