In the match against Everton, Bryan Mbeumo was deployed as a striker in a 3-4-1-2 formation. Alongside the former Brentford player was Matheus Cunha.
On his debut for Manchester United, Mbeumo played with great effort. Despite being a center forward, the Cameroonian player constantly dropped back to midfield and showed good understanding with the rest of the team, especially Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo.
In the first half, Mbeumo made a significant impact, initiating at least two dangerous attacks, one of which led to Manchester United's opening goal. Additionally, the 1999-born player had three shots on goal, all of which were saved by Jordan Pickford.
Mbeumo is showing positive signs. |
In the 17th minute, Mbeumo played a through pass to Amad Diallo, who penetrated the penalty area. The former Atalanta player's breakthrough effort earned Manchester United a penalty. From 11 meters, Bruno Fernandes calmly struck the ball, giving Pickford no chance to save. However, Manchester United were unable to maintain their lead, as Everton equalized at the end of the first half after Manuel Ugarte lost possession.
Mbeumo only played 45 minutes before being substituted at the start of the second half, making way for Patrick Dorgu. After the 25-year-old star left the field, MU could no longer maintain their dominant position.
Manchester United had to wait until the 69th minute for another meaningful attacking move. Mason Mount received the ball from Bruno, before turning and shooting into the far corner, making the score 2-1. It seemed as though MU would end their US friendly matches with a perfect record, but that wasn't the case. In the 77th minute, Ayden Heaven scored an own goal, giving the "Red Devils" their second goal.
While Mbeumo has made a strong impression, MU's other new signing, Matheus Cunha, seems to have yet to adapt to his new club's style of play. The former Wolves star has played three games but has failed to impress. According to Sofascore , Cunha even received the lowest rating among the 11 players who started against Everton.
MU will play their final friendly match against Fiorentina on August 9th, before kicking off the 2025/26 season with a clash against Arsenal at Old Trafford on August 17th.
