The Dimensity 8400 chip has long been highly anticipated and has garnered significant attention from users.
The Dimensity 8400 chip is the successor to the Dimensity 8300, with a similar design to the Dimensity 9400, featuring an 8-core Cortex-A725 processor and a maximum clock speed of up to 3.25GHz.

According to MediaTek, the Dimensity 8400 boasts a 41% improvement in multi-core performance and a 44% reduction in power consumption compared to its predecessor. The chipset's power curve has also been adjusted to maintain peak performance during extended use.
The Dimensity 8400 comes with a Mali-G720 GPU, which is 24% faster and 42% more power-efficient than its predecessor. It supports MediaTek Frame Rate Converter (MFRC) and MediaTek Adaptive Gaming Technology (MAGT) 3.0, optimizing games for higher frame rates in real time.
The Dimensity 8400 is equipped with the 880 NPU, which supports all major mainstream SLM and LMM language models. This NPU supports on-device AI features such as translation, rewriting, contextual responses, AI recording, and AI-assisted media creation. It also comes with MediaTek DAE support, which helps developers use the chipset for AI tasks, a feature borrowed from the high-end Dimensity 9400.
The Dimensity 8400 also features a MediaTek Imagiq 1080 ISP for image processing. It captures more light and can process high-resolution images faster with HDR support. This chipset also supports 5G connectivity, offering download speeds up to 5.17 Gbps. It can seamlessly switch between Wi-Fi and 5G networks for internet connectivity.
Phones equipped with the Dimensity 8400 chip will soon appear, and they will fall into the mid-range and upper-mid-range segments.
