In 2025, Meta removed over 159 million fraudulent ads globally for violating company policies, and also disabled 10.9 million Facebook and Instagram accounts linked to criminal scam centers.

Recently, Meta participated in a large-scale crackdown operation with law enforcement agencies worldwide. As a result, Meta investigators disabled over 150,000 accounts linked to scam networks and assisted in 21 arrests made by the Royal Thai Police.

Meta continues to detect and dismantle sophisticated scam organizations through close collaboration with industry partners and law enforcement agencies worldwide . Last year alone, the company removed over 159 million fraudulent ads, with 92% of those being proactively removed before user reports. Meta also disabled 10.9 million Facebook and Instagram accounts linked to criminal scam centers.

Anti-fraud tools

Although Meta's system constantly searches for and removes malicious accounts, scammers always find ways to evade detection. Meta's team of experts has developed new tools to warn users before they interact with suspicious content:

- Facebook warns about potentially fraudulent friend requests: Meta is testing new warnings on Facebook when users receive friend requests from accounts that appear suspicious, such as having few mutual friends or location information in a different country.

Meta's anti-fraud experts have also built advanced AI systems capable of analyzing multiple data sets, such as text, images, and context, to detect sophisticated scam patterns faster and on a larger scale. AI has provided new ways to detect scammers impersonating celebrities, public figures, or brands by analyzing fake fan reactions or misleading promotional information.

Additionally, Meta uses advanced AI to proactively detect and address content that redirects users to fake websites mimicking legitimate ones. This technology allows the company to identify a range of fraudulent activities with greater accuracy, protecting thousands of brands from impersonation.
