The decision by the board of directors of ADOR (a subsidiary of HYBE Group) to dismiss CEO Min Hee Jin has caused a stir in recent days.
ADOR announced that HR Director Kim Joo Young has been appointed as CEO. Although Min Hee Jin is stepping down as CEO, she will remain as an internal director within ADOR, overseeing production for the group NewJeans.
However, on August 30th, through Sejong Law Firm, Min Hee Jin revealed the contents of the production contract drafted by ADOR (backed by HYBE Group). Min Hee Jin claimed that this contract was full of unreasonable and unfair clauses.
Min Hee Jin's side stated that on August 27th, ADOR's management announced that former CEO Min Hee Jin would continue to serve as producer for NewJeans. However, this announcement was made against Min Hee Jin's wishes and reflects HYBE's unilateral media actions.
On August 28th, ADOR Chairman Kim Joo Young sent Min Hee Jin a "Production Authorization Agreement." Min Hee Jin's side emphasized that "many provisions in this contract are unilateral and unreasonable, leading to many misunderstandings."
The contract period stated in the agreement is from August 27th to November 1st, 2024, a total of only 2 months and 6 days. According to Min Hee Jin, after their fan meeting at Tokyo Dome (Japan) in June of this year, NewJeans is planning a world tour in 2025. However, a 2-month contract is not enough to realize this tour plan.
"This demonstrates that the newly appointed ADOR management team does not fully understand the core business operations of the industry," said Sejong Law Firm.
Furthermore, according to Min Hee Jin, this contract contains numerous harmful clauses, allowing ADOR to unilaterally terminate the contract at any time, for any reason whatsoever. Even a two-month contract can be shortened at the discretion of ADOR (actually HYBE).
Furthermore, Min Hee Jin's side claims that ADOR did not adhere to the principle of "separation between management and production" within the company as stated.
Min Hee Jin's representative stated, "The act of sending such an unreasonable contract raises doubts about whether HYBE truly wants to continue entrusting NewJeans to Min Hee Jin as producer. This can only be interpreted as a deliberate attempt to 'incite rejection of the production contract' and set up another media game."
ADOR's board of directors requested that the contract be signed by August 30th, but Min Hee Jin refused.
Following Min Hee Jin's statement, ADOR and HYBE responded that: "The 2-month period stipulated in the production authorization contract coincides with Min Hee Jin's current term as internal director at ADOR, which will end on November 1, 2024, after 3 years."
If her term is extended, then her contract could also be extended."
Producer Min Hee Jin has played a crucial role in NewJeans' success since their debut. Therefore, her removal from her position as CEO of ADOR, as well as the risk of permanent dismissal, has caused concern among the group's fans.
The future of New Jeans is considered "unpredictable," with activities potentially disrupted due to internal conflicts.
