Handling many violations in the market
During the peak period of fighting smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods before, during and after Tet, the City Market Management Department (MDM) detected and handled many violations in the area. For example, in Lien Chieu District, in January 2024, Market Management Team No. 5 discovered that the SCS business household (Hoa Hiep Nam Ward) was selling T-shirts, jackets and pants with signs of counterfeiting a trademark protected in Vietnam. The inspection team temporarily detained all the violating goods and completed the dossier to submit to the City Market Management Department to issue a decision to sanction this business according to regulations.
In Son Tra district, Market Management Team No. 2 discovered that LS store (An Hai Bac ward) displayed handbags of famous brands such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, etc. Through preliminary inspection, the above products showed signs of being counterfeit goods for protected trademarks. The inspection team temporarily detained all the goods and coordinated with the units representing the owners of the above trademarks in Vietnam to confirm genuine and counterfeit goods to ensure legality, as a basis for handling administrative violations according to the provisions of law.
In Thanh Khe district, during the peak period of market inspection before Tet (from November 20, 2023 to February 1, 2024), Market Management Team No. 3 organized inspections and administrative sanctions for more than 100 cases. During the inspection process, the team regularly disseminated and popularized the law to raise awareness of business establishments and units about the rights, responsibilities, harms, levels of influence and sanctions for violations in production and commercial business. At the same time, organizations and individuals were required to sign a commitment to list prices of goods and services and sell at the listed prices; not to fabricate, spread or report untrue information about the market situation, prices of goods and services; not to transport, store or trade goods of unknown origin; not to produce, transport, store or trade counterfeit goods or goods that infringe intellectual property rights.
Coordinate implementation of multiple solutions
At markets in the city, ensuring the origin of goods is of interest and importance to market management boards, traders and business households.
Mr. Phan Thanh Thoai, Head of Con Market Management Board, said that on average, Con Market has about 3,000 visitors and shoppers every day, and the number of visitors increases sharply during holidays and Tet. Therefore, ensuring food hygiene and safety, origin, price listing and selling at listed prices... are regular tasks that the market management board carries out, in coordination with inspection and supervision units and forces. For items with stamps and labels of the manufacturing unit, the management board requires businesses to affix additional stamps, with the address of the lot and stall at the market when retailing so that consumers have transparency and clear information when tracing the origin; and are responsible for the goods sold at the stall.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, in 2024, the department will continue to coordinate with departments, branches, sectors and units to implement many activities to raise awareness and responsibility for protecting consumer rights; gradually making Consumer Rights Day (March 15) an important driving force and highlight in socio -economic life, contributing to building a healthy business and consumption environment.
Specifically, from March 15 to 17 this year, at the Da Nang Exhibition Center (No. 9 Cach Mang Thang Tam), the Product Promotion Program - Launching Vietnam Consumer Rights Day 2024 will take place with 30 booths of 30 establishments and enterprises producing OCOP products, typical rural industrial products, and typical commercial products in the area.
Within the framework of the program, the City Market Management Department coordinated with the Da Nang City Consumer Protection Association to organize a "Booth introducing fake and genuine goods" to inform and propagate to manufacturers and businesses to raise awareness and responsibility in protecting consumer rights; inform, disseminate, advise and support consumers in the city to learn about legal policies on consumer protection, cases, violating goods and violation methods.
