Landslide risk at Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway fill

VnExpressVnExpress09/08/2023

Dong Nai People's Committee has just discovered violations in construction at the soil mines of the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway project that can easily cause landslides.

The violation was discovered when Dong Nai authorities organized an inspection team to inspect projects to exploit soil to build a residential road and an overpass on the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway in Xuan Loc district.

The joint venture of Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation and Trung Chinh Construction Company Limited (Vinaconex - Trung Chinh) committed violations during construction at the two mines Xuan Hung and Suoi Cat.

Specifically, when reclaiming land in Xuan Hung commune, the construction unit performed outside the project scope, exceeded the cote, created vertical walls not in accordance with the approved plan... Many times, the land exploitation area was at high risk of landslides, endangering lives and damaging equipment.

With the project at Binh Minh hill, Suoi Cat commune, the authorities determined that the contractor did not comply with the land acquisition and land improvement plan of the province; exploited and created the slope incorrectly... This caused unsafety, especially during storms.

Dong Nai requested the Vinaconex - Trung Chinh joint venture to promptly fix the problem, create a slope wall to prevent landslides, stabilize the slope of the project, and strictly prohibit the transportation of materials from this location out of the area. The locality requested the police to inspect the current situation and handle violations in the fields of minerals and environment.

The land mines in the two above-mentioned areas were extended by Dong Nai authorities in March 2023 to ensure the progress of civil works and the overpass over the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway. The contractor is expected to complete the items by the end of this year.

The 99 km long Dau Giay - Phan Thiet Expressway, connecting Dong Nai and Binh Thuan provinces, with a total investment of more than 12,500 billion VND, will be put into operation at the end of April 2023. The project helps cars from Ho Chi Minh City to Phan Thiet take more than 2 hours instead of 4-5 hours as before.
