Supporting poor women

Nearly 10 years ago, difficulties piled up when Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu's husband (An Bang village) had thyroid cancer, his health was deteriorating, and she alone had to shoulder the family's financial burden to support her elderly mother, sick husband and 3 young children's education... At this time, Ms. Thu received capital support of nearly 2 million VND from the "Piggy Bank" model.

Following the motto "short-term to long-term", up to now, Ms. Thu owns nearly 70 coconut trees, 2 fish ponds, a flock of nearly 1,000 chickens... the model brings in an income of nearly 80 million VND/year, thereby helping her family escape poverty and stabilize the economy.

“It was very difficult back then, thanks to the women in the commune who supported the capital to expand. Now my garden-pond-barn economic model is stable. I hope that more and more women will be supported like me to have capital to do business” – Ms. Thu shared.

Ms. Thu shared about the timely support of the "Piggy Bank" model.

Similarly, Ms. Ma Thi Bon was supported by the "Piggy Bank" model, which created a foundation for her to develop her economy. In 2020, after receiving 8 million VND in support plus savings, she invested in breeding cows, and now the mother cows give birth stably, one litter per year.

Ms. Bon said that in addition to raising cows, she also raises pigs, grows corn, and grows fruit trees, thanks to which her family's economy is better than before.

“Every year, I participate in the "Piggy Bank" model. Once I am stable, it will be the turn of other women to receive support like I did before,” Ms. Bon added.

Multiply good deeds

The “Piggy Bank Savings” model has been implemented by the Women’s Union of Dai Thanh commune for nearly 15 years now in the spirit of practicing thrift following Uncle Ho’s example. Every year, on the occasion of Uncle Ho’s birthday on May 19, women’s union members in branches, groups and 3 clubs in the commune will gather piggy banks to collect and break them.

Over the past time, the collected money has supported hundreds of women from poor and near-poor households to develop their economy. At the same time, it has supported children of members in difficult circumstances to buy school supplies, computers, bicycles, etc. to continue going to school.

“The economic life of rural women is still difficult, so initially saving to raise piggy banks was limited. However, with the propaganda in each actual condition at each branch and association, each woman participated enthusiastically within the family's ability. Up to now, women members not only raise piggy banks at home but also actively participate in clubs, groups and branches.”
