Expanding rural roads

From narrow, dilapidated roads, Tho Phu commune is transforming day by day thanks to the movement of people donating land to expand rural transportation. These expanded roads not only facilitate socio-economic development but also foster a spirit of solidarity and community responsibility among the villagers.

The village roads are clean and beautiful thanks to the collective efforts and unity of the people of Tho Phu.

Consensus from the people

Through a review, over 155km of roads in Tho Phu commune need to be widened. Villages in the commune have proactively and decisively mobilized the people to donate land for road expansion, yielding positive results. After three years of implementation, the entire commune has mobilized 4,520 households to donate land, with the total length of roads donated by the people reaching nearly 88km and the area of ​​13.2 hectares. The rural road system in the commune has been basically invested in and upgraded with asphalt paving, concrete pouring, and shoulder improvements.

In many villages within the commune, it's not uncommon to see households voluntarily demolishing fences, gates, and cutting down old trees to widen roads. Some families donate a few dozen square meters of land, while others donate hundreds of square meters without demanding compensation. The people understand that widening roads not only facilitates easier travel today but is also an investment in the long-term future of their children.

To achieve this consensus, Tho Phu commune mobilized the entire political system. From the Party committee, government, and Fatherland Front to various organizations, everyone actively propagated and persuaded the people through diverse methods. The issue of donating land for road construction was included in Party branch meetings, village activities, and public meetings; the public address system and social media were utilized to publicize the practical benefits of expanding rural transportation.

Most importantly, the exemplary role of cadres and Party members is crucial. Following the motto "Party members lead the way, the people follow," many cadres and Party members in the commune have set an example by donating land first, creating a ripple effect in the community. From this exemplary behavior, the movement of donating land for road construction in Tho Phu has gradually become a voluntary act among the people. Not only have they donated land, but many households have also contributed labor, materials, and funds to help the local authorities complete the roads. Many people who have left their hometowns have also joined hands to support the development of their homeland with practical contributions. The spirit of community solidarity is strongly fostered by the roads that are being expanded day by day.

Paving the way for development

The new, wide, and clean roads are bringing about noticeable changes in Tho Phu. Cars can now access many residential areas, making the transportation of goods and agricultural products much easier than before. Residents say that after the roads were widened and paved, trade became easier, and many households boldly invested in economic development, expanding production and business.

Beyond boosting economic development, the upgraded transportation system also contributes to improving the quality of life for the people. Children can go to school safely, the elderly can travel more conveniently, and the rural landscape is becoming increasingly neat, clean, and beautiful. What is particularly valuable is that, through the movement of donating land for road construction, the people of Tho Phu are becoming more aware of their role as key players in building new rural areas. They are no longer on the sidelines but are directly participating with the government in developing their homeland. Today's rural roads are not only widened but also open up new development opportunities for the locality; they bring agricultural products closer to the market, provide development opportunities for the people, and contribute to a more civilized and modern rural landscape.

The resolution of the Tho Phu Commune Party Committee sets the goal of basically completing the expansion, upgrading, and hardening of the rural transportation system by 2030 according to the criteria of advanced new rural areas and future urbanization orientation. Accordingly, the commune sets specific standards for each type of road: commune roads must be at least 7.5m wide; village roads 6.5m; and alleyways 4.5m. At the same time, the commune strives to complete the mobilization of people to donate land to expand the remaining 67km of roads within the two years of 2026-2027.

This is not an easy goal to achieve, as in reality, some areas still face difficulties in mobilization efforts, and a segment of the population still has a wait-and-see attitude, not yet fully understanding the long-term benefits of expanding rural transportation. However, with the determination of the entire political system and the increasing consensus of the people, Tho Phu is gradually overcoming these difficulties to continue expanding the remaining roads.

The commune Party Committee has clearly identified this as a key and ongoing political task from now until 2030. A commune-level steering committee and village-level mobilization teams have been established to directly engage with the community, disseminate information, and mobilize the people. In addition, the commune prioritizes mobilizing resources to invest in transportation infrastructure, combining state budget funds with social contributions and the people's donations.
