Missing even a single bullet, even a "defective" one, cannot be taken lightly. Immediately, the commanding officer ordered the platoons to conduct a thorough search of every soldier, determined to find the missing bullet.

Hearing the orders blaring from the shooting range's loudspeaker, Private Linh appeared flustered, his face flushed, his left foot fidgeting on the grass, and he bent down twice as if tying his shoelaces but instead fumbled with his shoe. Private Linh's attitude and actions did not escape the notice of Platoon Leader Dien:

- Comrade Linh, was the bullet lodged in your shoe?

Soldier Linh was startled and stammered:

- Yes... yes... sir!

- Could you take it out and let me see it right now?

Linh sat down, took off her shoes, and pulled out the bullet, causing the entire unit to exclaim in surprise, "Oh!" The platoon leader held up the intact bullet, which now bore the marks of impact from the firing pin at the bottom, for the whole unit to see and asked:

- What circumstances caused this dud bullet to get into Comrade Linh's shoe?

The whole unit found it funny, but they had to hold back their laughter because Platoon Leader Dien looked very serious. Linh timidly confessed:

- Well... after the shot failed to fire, I had the idea to take this dud bullet home to... to...

- What is it for? Please explain clearly. Why are you hesitating so much?

- Yes... I intend to... give it to my girlfriend to surprise her with a special gift.

The platoon leader said sternly:

- The unit has repeatedly emphasized and reminded everyone about safety regulations, especially regarding the management and use of firearms and ammunition, including the requirement to hand over any unusable or damaged ammunition found to the unit. Comrade Linh's actions today were very dangerous and could endanger himself, his comrades, and even his girlfriend. The bullet hadn't exploded yet, but it could have exploded at any moment. How could he have hidden it in his shoe and intended to give it to his girlfriend?

Hearing Lieutenant Dien's words, Soldier Linh bowed his head in shame and remorse, only managing to apologize after a long pause. That evening, both the officer in charge of firing the ammunition, who failed to properly inspect and collect the unexploded rounds, and Soldier Linh himself had to write self-criticism reports. Soldier Linh understood his mistake and the danger of violating safety regulations, so he concluded his self-criticism report with the statement: "I promise from now on to strictly abide by the regulations of the unit and the Army, and to absolutely not violate discipline or safety regulations."
