The club's management probably waited until after the final, hoping for a victory, before announcing the appointment of coach Alonso as a strong morale booster. Things didn't go as expected, however, as Chelsea lost to Man City in the final, thus ending the season in complete failure.
Unless something unexpected happens, Chelsea will be absent from European competition next season. Their current situation is quite similar to Manchester United's last season, having performed terribly in the Premier League and also losing in a cup final.
The difference lies in the coaching "machine." Manchester United, at the end of last season, still placed their full trust in manager Ruben Amorim, only to sack him halfway through the following season. Chelsea, on the other hand, started a new cycle immediately after their FA Cup final defeat.
Manchester United's resurgence this season gives Chelsea confidence for next year. Sometimes, not participating in European competitions offers advantages – most notably in terms of player fitness. Of course, the price is a significant drop in revenue. Chelsea, already struggling with Financial Fair Play regulations, will face even greater difficulties in signing players if they lose tens or even hundreds of millions of euros due to not qualifying for European competitions.
Chelsea's strength lies in their vast star-studded squad; they can easily generate €100-200 million each summer simply by selling off unnecessary players. Personnel on the pitch has never been a problem for Chelsea. What they need is a good manager, synergy between tactics and players, and a wise leadership team. Chelsea have struggled this season, but they are still worth watching after this summer.
