Marcus Rashford has unexpectedly become the focus of the 2026 summer transfer market as Real Madrid are reportedly planning to intervene in the deal between Barcelona and Manchester United.
According to The Independent , Jose Mourinho, who is likely to return to manage Real Madrid, is very keen to reunite with his former pupil at the Bernabeu.
The Portuguese strategist sees Rashford as a key target in his plan to rebuild the Royal team's attack.
Rashford has just had a strong resurgence season on loan at Barcelona. The English striker scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists, helping Hansi Flick's team win La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup.
That impressive form has led Barca to want to buy Rashford outright. However, financial difficulties are causing the Camp Nou club to hesitate over the approximately €30 million fee demanded by Manchester United.
Journalist Miguel Delaney revealed that Mourinho has two reasons for pursuing Rashford. Firstly, he highly values the 28-year-old's abilities after their time working together at Manchester United, and secondly, it would put more pressure on and make things more difficult for Barcelona in the transfer market.

With the futures of Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappe still uncertain, Real Madrid are reportedly looking to add a fast, dynamic, and versatile player to their attacking line.
However, perhaps the biggest obstacle is Rashford's repeated public expressions of affection for Barcelona. The English striker has admitted that he wants to remain at Camp Nou and considers wearing the Catalan club's shirt an honor.
Manchester United have yet to make a final decision regarding the future of the striker who came through the club's academy.
However, if Barcelona continues to delay negotiations, Real Madrid could very well create one of the biggest shocks of this summer's transfer window.
