On the evening of January 3rd, the Mong Flute Festival - To Day Flower Festival 2026 officially opened in Mu Cang Chai commune, Lao Cai province, with a special artistic program "Flower Flute Dance".

The artistic program at the opening ceremony was elaborately staged with the participation of 500 artists and performers, comprising three parts: "Harmonious Sounds and Colorful Flowers"; "Sharing the Joy of the Festival Season" and "Rhythms of the Highlands".

The performances of khene dance, khene ensemble, scarf dance, etc., presented by the Center for Young Artists, Ampedia Dance Troupe, and 200 cultural and artistic talents from Mu Cang Chai commune, vividly recreated the daily life, work, festivals, and aspirations of the highland people.

In particular, the program takes viewers from the dreamy beauty of the vibrant, colorful cottonwood forests to the lively and bustling atmosphere of the Hmong village festivals.

The opening night left a deep impression on locals and tourists alike. The lingering sounds of the bamboo flute and the vibrant pink of the wild jasmine flowers conveyed the message that Mu Cang Chai is an attractive destination, ushering in a new year full of hope for local tourism .

According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Hiep, Chairman of the People's Committee of Mu Cang Chai commune, with its majestic terraced rice fields, changing natural landscapes throughout the four seasons, and the rich cultural heritage of the ethnic minorities, Mu Cang Chai has left a deep impression on tourists. Mu Cang Chai's appeal was further enhanced in 2023 when the Mong flute art was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in the category of folk performing arts.

For the Hmong people, the khene (a type of bamboo flute) is not just a musical instrument but also a social symbol – a means of communication and a "bridge" in the relationships of the people here.

In the early days of spring, the vibrant colors of the Tớ Dày flower – a characteristic flower of the high mountain forests – bloom brightly on the mountain slopes, carrying with it the profound cultural values and spiritual life of the Hmong people.

The "tớ dày" flower is not only a symbol of spring in the highlands but also a source of inspiration for Mu Cang Chai to develop tourism products that are rich in identity, linked to experiences of nature and local culture.

Mr. Hiep stated that, in the context of implementing the two-tiered local government model, Mu Cang Chai commune has clearly identified tourism development as a key, long-term task.

Building upon the direction of the former district level, this year's Hmong Flute Festival - To Day Flower Festival continues to be organized on an increasingly larger scale and with richer content.

The event was implemented with a focus on close cooperation and coordination among the communes in the Mu Cang Chai area, aiming to honor the values of ethnic cultural heritage and create a unified cultural and tourism space for the entire region.

Within the framework of the Mong Flute Festival - To Day Flower Festival 2026, many special events will take place, such as: a street parade; a sticky rice cake pounding competition; a Mong flute competition; stalls displaying, introducing, and selling products; a recreation of ethnic cultural spaces; an art photography exhibition "The Vibrant Colors of To Day Flowers"; folk games, and cultural performances…
