MU finalize Baleba deal.

Manchester United are quietly developing a plan to strengthen their midfield, with Carlos Baleba being a long-term target.

Manchester United could sign Baleba in 2026.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Old Trafford still maintains a strong interest in the young Brighton midfielder. Therefore, 2026 would be the ideal time to activate the deal.

In the eyes of manager Ruben Amorim, Baleba is considered a piece that could elevate the "Red Devils'" midfield. The Portuguese coach believes that the 21-year-old midfielder possesses the physical fitness, tackling ability, and tactical awareness that fit the philosophy he is pursuing at Old Trafford.

One factor that boosted MU's confidence was the withdrawal of Bayern Munich, their rival in the race to sign Baleba. According to journalist Romano, the German club is no longer pursuing the Cameroonian midfielder, as the player is reportedly prioritizing his future in the Premier League.

However, the Baleba deal faced mixed opinions. The 2025/26 season saw inconsistent form from the midfielder while playing for Brighton. Nevertheless, experts still highly rated Baleba's potential, especially when placed in a more suitable system.

Besides Baleba, manager Amorim is also considering other options such as Adam Wharton or Elliott Anderson. MU are reportedly ready to act in the January transfer window or in the summer of 2026.

Notably, Brighton will not sell Baleba for a cheap price. Manchester United previously passed on this deal in the summer of 2025 because they were asked for a price of up to £100 million.
