According to The Times , a fee of around £60 million could be enough to persuade West Ham to release the player, especially after the London club's relegation to the Championship. Some sources even suggest that MU expects to complete the deal for as little as £40 million.
However, West Ham have no intention of selling their young star cheaply. The London club are demanding £80 million for Fernandes, double the amount Manchester United are willing to pay.
The reason West Ham are raising Fernandes' price is because of a clause entitling them to 15% of any future transfer fee Southampton paid for Fernandes when they sold him for £38 million last summer.
Despite his immense potential, Fernandes still has many areas that need improvement. Therefore, the £80 million price tag is considered a significant challenge for MU.
However, if the young midfielder is determined to join Old Trafford, INEOS's team can still hope to reach an agreement at a more reasonable fee in the near future.
Besides MU, Arsenal and PSG have also made approaches to the West Ham midfielder. In addition, Chelsea, Manchester City and Newcastle are all closely monitoring the situation of the Portuguese player.
Besides the transfer fee, another factor that makes MU even more determined to pursue Fernandes is the player's great admiration for his senior teammate Bruno Fernandes. The young Portuguese midfielder himself is also said to have always wanted to wear the "Red Devils" shirt.
