MU wants to exchange players with Real Madrid

MU turned Mainoo into a "scapegoat" in their ambition to recruit Valverde.

However, according to Defensa Central , the possibility of the deal being successful is almost zero. Valverde is considered by Real as a key factor in their long-term plans. Real Madrid have no plans to let Valverde leave.

The Uruguayan midfielder played 330 games, scored 32 goals for "Los Blancos", won 3 La Liga titles and 2 Champions Leagues. He joined Real from Penarol (Uruguay) in 2016 and has just extended his contract until 2029.

Meanwhile, Mainoo grew up at Carrington and made 76 appearances for MU, scoring 7 goals. He contributed to the 2024 FA Cup championship and has 10 caps for England.

However, since Ruben Amorim took charge last November, Mainoo has fallen out of favour and has only started once this season, in the shock defeat to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.

During the summer transfer window, Mainoo requested to be loaned out to seek more playing opportunities, preparing for the 2026 World Cup. However, MU refused. Mainoo's current contract with MU lasts until 2027, with an option to extend for another year.

Coach Amorim has repeatedly affirmed his trust in his student: "I believe in Mainoo a lot, he is a good player. But many people think Mainoo is complete, but I don't. He can improve even more. Maybe a bit harsh, but I want him to fight and become more mature."
