In keeping with the vibrant summer atmosphere, the box office in early June also offers a series of outstanding horror films for audiences who enjoy chills and suspense. Leading the list is THE NUN – a horror film from the Philippines, deeply rooted in the mystery and folklore of Southeast Asia. Directed by Joey De Guzman, Ian Loreños, and Shugo Praico, and starring Carla Abellana, Loisa Andalio, and Janice De Belen, the film unfolds three terrifying stories spanning different time periods. Set in 1775 during the Spanish colonial era, the film follows nuns trying to survive a terrifying night when a mysterious evil force is unleashed within the convent. Moving on to 2025, the haunting continues as a group of friends attending a Halloween costume party unexpectedly become targets of a serial killer. Further into the future, in 2050, the Philippines descends into post-apocalyptic chaos under the rule of the terrifying Aswang. With its anthology-based structure and chilling atmosphere steeped in Southeast Asian folklore, the film promises a haunting experience for horror fans.

On June 12th, the screen welcomed the Hong Kong film RAGE, directed by Kenji Tanigaki. The film revolves around Wang Wei (Xie Miao), a man living in Hong Kong with his daughter Rainy (Yang Enyou). One day, Rainy is kidnapped by a child trafficking ring. He embarks on a brutal revenge mission to rescue his daughter. Wei teams up with Navin (Joe Taslim), a journalist whose wife went missing while investigating this very dangerous human trafficking ring.

While "RAGE" is a thrilling crime-themed action film, " THE FIREMAN'S HOUSE" is a work deeply rooted in Vietnamese urban legends and spiritual horror, directed by Hung Tran. The film features a cast of promising young actors: Tran Ky Anh, Nguyen Minh Thoi, Ngoc Chi Bao, Phung Hoang, Nguyen Cong Nuong, and Dung Ha. Exploring the famous story of the "ghost of the Hua family," the film takes viewers on a haunting journey inside one of Saigon's most mysterious abandoned mansions. The story follows a group of young streamers who decide to infiltrate this "forbidden territory" to film and uncover the chilling rumors that have persisted for years. However, their curiosity inadvertently awakens an evil spirit that has been suppressed for over a century, dragging the entire group into a series of terrifying events with no escape. With its found footage style, creating the feeling of watching the final moments of the victims, THE FIREMAN'S HOUSE promises to deliver a tense, breathtaking experience with a series of haunting moments on the big screen. The film is scheduled to be released to audiences on June 12th.

The film "Rouge"

In stark contrast to the tense and chilling atmosphere of horror films, "Yen Chi Khau" offers a nostalgic, romantic, and poetic blend reminiscent of classic Hong Kong cinema. Directed by Stanley Kwan, the film tells the tragic love story between Chan Chun-bang (Twelve Young Masters), a wealthy young man from a powerful family, and Ru Hua, a famous courtesan in 1930s Hong Kong. Facing fierce family opposition and unable to be together, they vowed to die together forever. However, their promise remained unfulfilled when Chan Chun-bang lacked the courage to keep it. Half a century later, Ru Hua's spirit returns to modern Hong Kong to search for her lover, only to find that the Twelfth Young Masters has become a lonely old man, living a dull and decaying life. Interwoven with the fantastical elements is a poignant story of love, waiting, and promises that cannot be kept over time. Considered one of the classics of Asian art cinema, ROYAL CHESTNUT promises to deliver an emotionally charged experience to audiences when it returns to the big screen on June 12th.

On the same day, June 12th, Studio Ghibli released the beloved childhood film PONYO THE MERMAID . The story begins when Ponyo, a mermaid girl, escapes from her father's underwater palace out of curiosity. Trapped in a glass jar, she is rescued by a 5-year-old boy named Sosuke, who takes her in and cares for her. Longing to become human to be with Sosuke, Ponyo uses magic and inadvertently creates a great flood that threatens the safety of the small island. Sosuke and Ponyo will overcome the challenges of the ocean together, protecting Ponyo's human form with their genuine friendship and bringing peace to the world .

The movie "Spooky Nursery Rhymes"

As one of the most highly-rated Thai survival thrillers of summer 2026, "The Haunted Children 's Song" tells the story of a group of delinquent students punished by being sent to an abandoned temple – seemingly just a boring punishment. Then, the children accidentally discover a strange board game. As soon as the game begins, each roll of the dice summons a demon, turning each square into a deadly challenge. The only rule: the game must end before dawn. Initially, they think it's just a joke, until one by one they disappear and their personal fears become reality. The children realize: the game cannot be stopped, and to survive, they must continue playing, confronting and destroying each demon. From here, the story transforms into a true survival game, with a style many liken to "Jumanji's Thai horror version." The film will officially be released in theaters on June 19th.

The Chinese horror film BUTTERFLY CAGE will take viewers to the Lu family mansion, also known as the Butterfly Mansion, a place long famous as a mysterious haunted house. After Li Han, a female physical therapist, and the greedy man A Wei move in, a series of terrifying events occur, gradually revealing the dark secrets of the Lu family. Directed by the duo Hao Han and Wang Zhe, the film is scheduled for nationwide release on June 19th.

The movie "Toy Story 5"

Returning to the big screen after a 7-year absence, TOY STORY 5 continues to follow the familiar toys, only this time it's a confrontation between toys and technology. Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the whole group will face an unprecedented challenge when a new threat emerges, threatening the very joy of children's play. The film is co-directed by Kenna Harris and Andrew Stanton – who previously wrote the screenplays for Toy Story 1 and 2 – and produced by Lindsey Collins (Wall-E, Finding Dori). The film is scheduled for release on June 19th.

SUPERGIRL – one of the most anticipated superhero blockbusters of 2026 – has officially set its release date for June 26th. Temporarily stepping away from the shadow of her "cousin Superman," this film places Kara Zor-El/Supergirl (played by Milly Alcock) at the center of an epic intergalactic journey. Accompanied by Lucy – an unexpected partner – Kara is drawn into a pursuit fueled by hatred and a thirst for justice after witnessing a brutal crime unfold before her eyes. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the name behind the success of I, Tonya and Cruella, the film is also executive produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran – a duo shaping a new era for DC Studios. In addition to Milly Alcock, the film also stars Jason Momoa and David Corenswet, the actor who played Superman in the previous film.

The movie "Supergirl"

LEVITICUS , the final horror project to be released in June, is set in a conservative Christian community in a small, isolated Australian town, where two teenagers, Naim and Ryan, are forced to participate in "gender transition" therapies. But the more they try to deny their true desires, the more they are pursued by an evil force, taking the form of the very person they most desire: their partner. The film is scheduled for release on June 26th.

The return of Hong Kong cinema to Vietnamese screens is further affirmed by the classic film *Road to the Four Seas* . Under the direction of John Woo (the man behind the blockbuster *Face/Off*), the film is a fast-paced, humorous, and dramatic adventure revolving around a trio of daring super thieves: A Hai (Chow Yun-fat), A Chiem (Leslie Cheung), and Hong Dou (Chung Chu-hong). All three are adopted by a super thief (Tsang Chiang) and trained to become the most notorious thieves in Hong Kong. Together, they undertake an impromptu and dramatic heist to "steal a cursed art painting in France." The film is scheduled to be released on June 26th.
