(QBĐT) - In the final days of the year, the streets and villages become more vibrant and bustling as they prepare to welcome the New Year of the Snake 2025. Amidst this hustle and bustle, all levels of government, organizations, agencies, and philanthropists do not forget to show concern for vulnerable groups in society, especially children in special circumstances. For these children, Tet (Lunar New Year) is approaching with sincere and meaningful love and sharing.
On a late afternoon at the end of the year, despite the freezing weather, staff and employees of Saigon Commercial Joint Stock Bank ( Sacombank ) - Quang Binh Branch visited and presented gifts to vulnerable individuals being cared for and nurtured at the Provincial Social Work Center. The gifts exchanged and the warm, heartfelt hugs warmed the hearts of these less fortunate individuals.
That afternoon, we were deeply impressed by the tall, thin boy with dark skin and a radiant smile always on his lips. Upon inquiry, we learned that he was Ho Duong, the main character in the story of rescuing a young May child who was about to be buried alive with his mother due to a barbaric custom 14 years ago in Ka Ai village, Dan Hoa commune (Minh Hoa district).
In early December 2010, when Ho Duong was born, his mother, Ms. CTL, also breathed her last. Out of grief for their child who was motherless and fearing that "forest spirits would return to haunt the village," the entire clan decided to bury him and his mother alive according to their customs. Fortunately, upon learning of the news, the Cha Lo International Border Gate Border Guard Post, under the Provincial Border Guard Command, promptly dispatched officers and soldiers to the village to persuade the family and villagers to bring the child home.
After rescuing Ho Duong, the Border Guard handed him over to his older sister, Ho Thi Le, for care and upbringing. In 2012, he was admitted to the Provincial Social Work Center. Now, after 12 years of dedication and attentive care from the center's staff, Ho Duong is a well-behaved, understanding, and optimistic teenager.
She said, "Although fate hasn't given me a life of abundance and fulfillment, I'm very lucky to have received so much love from everyone. In the 12 years I've celebrated Tet here, I've never felt lonely or sad because I've received so much love. For me, it's a huge encouragement to overcome adversity, to study hard, and to become a useful member of society in the future."
Nguyen Viet Ha (name changed), also a child with special circumstances, abandoned at birth, has been cared for and nurtured by the SOS Children's Village Dong Hoi for the past 14 years. There were times when she felt disheartened seeing her friends with complete, loving families. But the genuine care and affection of the mothers and aunts at the village helped her overcome her sadness and become more confident.
Having lived here for so long, especially during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), Viet Ha has felt even more strongly that love and care. “Every Tet, I not only receive gifts from organizations and individuals but also participate in many meaningful activities in the village, such as making jam, wrapping banh chung (traditional rice cakes), decorating the house… Living in such warm love, I feel that my own disadvantages have lessened considerably,” Viet Ha expressed.
As a place that cares for and nurtures children with special circumstances, SOS Children's Village Dong Hoi always strives to ensure all conditions for the children's care, trying to compensate for the disadvantages they face. During holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), the unit always proactively contacts and connects with all levels, sectors, units, and philanthropists to organize meaningful programs for the children. "The care and sharing of the community and society have 'fueled' us to care for and raise the children well, and are a valuable source of encouragement for them to overcome adversity and rise above," affirmed Nguyen Ngoc Ninh, Director of SOS Children's Village Dong Hoi.
Mobilizing support resources from units and businesses inside and outside the province, the Provincial Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans distributed 260 gifts worth a total of 236 million VND to people with disabilities and orphans in 8 districts, towns, and cities; Sacombank Quang Binh organized the "Warmth of Spring" program, distributing 168 gifts worth nearly 90 million VND to children, elderly people living alone, and people with disabilities at the Provincial Social Work Center and the Center for the Education and Nurturing of Children with Disabilities in Dong Hoi City…
And there are many more activities that have been and are being continued to bring the warmth of spring to children in special circumstances.
As is customary every year, as spring approaches, all levels of government, organizations, agencies, and units begin activities to care for vulnerable groups in society during Tet (Lunar New Year), especially children with special circumstances. In the journey of connecting love in spring 2025, many meaningful and practical activities have been implemented with the hope of bringing many smiles to disadvantaged children, children with disabilities, orphans, and those without a place to live…
| “The Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake is fast approaching. Children across the country are eagerly anticipating new clothes and celebrating the New Year with their families and loved ones in a joyful and festive atmosphere. For children with special circumstances, these seemingly simple joys are difficult to achieve. Therefore, more than ever, they need the care, sharing, and love from everyone. The efforts of all levels of government, organizations, and benevolent individuals will contribute to bringing them a New Year filled with love and meaning, strengthening their faith, love, and hope for good things in life…”, shared Ho Tan Canh, Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs. |
