Mr. Pham Anh Dao, Chairman of Muong Lan Commune People's Committee, said: Since the beginning of the year, the commune has effectively implemented national target programs on economic and social development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas; sustainable poverty reduction; new rural construction. Supported breeding cows for 64 households in Cong and Huoi Men villages, total value of 1.3 billion VND; coordinated with the District Agricultural Service Center to support breeding cows for 71 households in Muong Lan village, worth 2.8 billion VND. In addition, Economic - Defense Group 326 also supported 2 projects to plant 36 hectares of octagonal bamboo and provided more than 500 kg of fish fry to 85 poor, near-poor and ethnic minority households in Kha, Muong Lan, Na Vac and Phieng Pen villages.
In addition, Muong Lan commune directed mass organizations to receive over 55 billion VND from the Social Policy Bank for more than 800 households to borrow capital to invest in production development; coordinate with reputable units and enterprises to organize consulting and introduce jobs for nearly 400 workers working outside the province, with an average income of 7-10 million VND/month. People in the commune are planting and caring for 369 hectares of fruit trees, mainly oranges, tangerines, and green-skinned grapefruits; of which, more than 250 hectares have been harvested, with an output of nearly 400 tons of various fruits in the first 6 months of the year. Every year, over 200 hectares of rice are planted in two crops; more than 700 hectares of corn, 600 hectares of cassava are planted; 14 hectares are converted to coffee. The commune aims to develop livestock farming in the direction of goods, periodically vaccinating nearly 12,000 cattle and 43,000 poultry. At the same time, mobilize people to protect more than 15,000 hectares of protective forests and production forests.
Cong Village has 170 households with more than 700 people. Mr. Vi Van Bien, Party cell secretary and village head, said: Focusing on increasing income for the people, the Party cell and the village management board have directed the people to maintain intensive cultivation of 50 hectares of 2-crop rice; plant 260 hectares of corn and cassava and take care of 40 hectares of fruit trees. In addition, people have been encouraged to convert 6 hectares of low-yield corn and cassava land to coffee, with initial results showing that this crop is suitable and growing well. The village hopes that all levels and sectors will continue to support seeds and techniques for the people to expand the coffee growing area and find stable output for fruit trees, contributing to economic development and sustainable poverty reduction.
Thanks to the synchronous implementation of economic development support solutions, the commune's poverty rate has decreased by 2 - 4.5% each year. Currently, Muong Lan commune continues to focus on agricultural production in the direction of increasing value, replicating effective economic models; coordinating with specialized agencies to transfer production techniques in the form of "hand-holding and showing how to do things"; supporting disadvantaged households in economic development, sustainable poverty reduction, increasing income, and improving life.
