US intercepts Iranian missiles, retaliates with attacks on Qeshm Island.

(HTV) - On June 2nd, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that the US had intercepted Iranian ballistic missiles and UAVs, and launched a self-defense strike on Qeshm Island in response to Tehran's attacks across the Middle East.

According to a CENTCOM statement, Iran launched several ballistic missiles toward neighboring countries in the region, but none hit their targets. Two Iranian missiles aimed at Kuwait either crashed or broke apart in flight, while three missiles launched toward Bahrain were immediately intercepted by US air defenses in cooperation with Bahrain.

Earlier that day, CENTCOM also shot down three drones launched by Iran toward ships legally navigating in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. also conducted a self-defense strike on an Iranian ground military outpost on Qeshm Island, near the Strait of Hormuz.

Additionally, CENTCOM posted a video showing a missile attack on an oil tanker heading to Iran. The agency stated that "the ship's crew ignored multiple warnings and failed to comply with instructions from U.S. forces on several occasions within a 24-hour period."

This is the sixth ship that the U.S. military has neutralized since beginning its blockade of Iran on April 13, aimed at forcing Tehran back to the negotiating table on Washington's terms. The U.S. military said it has also diverted 122 ships attempting to enter and leave Iranian ports.

CENTCOM also rejected the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps' (IRGC) claim of attacking the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain and a US air base, stating that the claim was "false."

More than three months after the US and Israel launched their air campaign against Iran, the situation remains at a stalemate, with a fragile ceasefire being maintained while the Strait of Hormuz remains virtually closed.

Last week, Iran and the United States announced they had reached a preliminary agreement to end the war. However, the two sides have not yet officially signed the document.
