We had the opportunity to visit Na An village, Dong Dang commune on a day in early September 2025. Along both sides of the road to the village were endless green eucalyptus forests. In the distance, spacious high-rise buildings were built close together, this was clear evidence of the change in the lives of the people here.
Coming to the house of Ms. Hoang Thi Kien, Party Cell Secretary and Head of Na An Village, listening to her tell the story of the people escaping poverty here made us admire even more the will and determination of the people. Ms. Kien shared: The whole village has 60 households, 260 people. Previously, the poverty rate of the village was high, the people's lives faced many difficulties. Since 2015, promoting the strength of the hills and forests, some households in the village began to plant eucalyptus trees and achieved economic efficiency. From then on, the villagers together cleared and improved the hills to plant forests, thanks to which up to now 100% of the households in the village have forests with an area of over 200 hectares.
To achieve that result, the Party Cell, the Front Committee of Na An village and other associations and organizations have organized meetings and promoted and mobilized people to promote the advantages of forestry land to develop afforestation. At the same time, they have promoted people to participate in training courses on science and technology transfer, vocational training on animal husbandry and cultivation to gain production knowledge, improve economic efficiency; and borrow preferential loans to invest in economic development.
Mrs. Ha Thi Nat's family is one of the typical households that has escaped poverty thanks to bold investment in forest planting. Mrs. Nat shared: My family used to be a poor household, there was a time when we did not have enough to eat. In 2017, through propaganda and mobilization, I renovated the forest hill land and planted 1,000 eucalyptus trees. So my family cleared the forest land and gradually planted over the years, up to now my family has planted 5,000 eucalyptus trees, last year my family exploited part of the eucalyptus forest, earning over 200 million VND, my family has escaped poverty and built a spacious house. Currently, my family continues to focus on taking care of the forest area to strive to get rich in the coming time.
Not only Mrs. Nat's family, in recent years, many households in the village have escaped poverty and become well-off thanks to afforestation. By the end of 2024, the village had only 1 poor household, accounting for 1.66%, down 15% compared to 2021; average income per capita reached 42.06 million VND/person/year, up 13 million VND/person/year compared to 2021.
Ms. Hoang Thi Phuong Hue, Vice Chairman of Dong Dang Commune People's Committee, assessed: Along with the attention and orientation of the commune government, in recent years, the people of Na An village have promoted the spirit of self-reliance and self-reliance to rise up, not waiting or relying on the support of the State. Although the village still has many difficulties, the people have boldly and effectively developed the forest planting model, making eucalyptus trees the main crop, bringing high economic efficiency, helping many households escape poverty. With those efforts, in April 2025, Na An village was honored to receive a certificate of merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for its outstanding achievements in the emulation movement "For the poor, leaving no one behind" for the period 2021 - 2025.
Thanks to the people's continuous efforts, poverty reduction work in Na An village has achieved remarkable results. Thereby, it has aroused the spirit and will to overcome poverty sustainably of the people here, contributing positively to the goal of poverty reduction and new rural construction of the commune.
