On May 22, 2026, the Drug Rehabilitation Center under the Drug Crime Investigation Department of the Lang Son Provincial Police organized the "Opening Ceremony for Vocational Training Courses for Students in 2026".
A "support system" for people recovering from addiction.
Speaking at the program, Colonel Nguyen Quang Huyen, Deputy Director of the Provincial Police, emphasized: Addiction treatment is not just about detoxification and withdrawal, but more importantly, it must be linked to education , vocational training, and job placement. This is a path that not only provides those who have completed rehabilitation with a "fishing rod" but also prepares them with the "resources" to retrieve the "fish" of their lives after their fall.
This time, 70 eligible trainees are participating in a course on safe vegetable cultivation and electric welding, with a total of 120 hours of training (approximately 3 months of theory and practice). The trainees receive free education and training, and upon completion, they will be awarded a basic certificate in their chosen profession.
Besides organizing vocational training classes for trainees, the provincial drug rehabilitation center also organizes programs to disseminate political and ideological education and legal knowledge, as well as information on credit policies for people who have completed drug rehabilitation.
Major Vu Quoc Truong, Head of the Provincial Drug Rehabilitation Center, disseminated Decision No. 08/2026/QD-TTg dated March 3, 2026, of the Prime Minister. Accordingly, trainees were informed about the conditions for borrowing capital, the loan amount, and the interest rate.
Vocational training and credit support models have helped many trainees change their perceptions, fostering hope and faith in the future. "Giving them a fishing rod instead of a fish not only helps those recovering from addiction stand on their own two feet but also contributes to maintaining security and order, building a safe and humane society. This is also clear evidence of the correct and humane policy of the Party and the State: always opening a path for those who have gone astray to have the opportunity to correct their mistakes and rise up," emphasized Major Vu Quoc Truong.
Hope for tomorrow
We witnessed many practical and meaningful programs at the drug rehabilitation center for the trainees, such as watching propaganda films commemorating the 51st anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2026) and International Labor Day (May 1); participating in cultural and artistic programs… Particularly impressive and moving was the awards ceremony for the volleyball and sepak takraw competitions, honoring the high-achieving athletes, including commanders, officers, soldiers, workers, and trainees. This was not only an opportunity to improve health, strengthen solidarity, and foster learning among the trainees, but also demonstrated the efforts and determination of each trainee to overcome drug addiction.
Student Nguyen Thi Ngoc N (born in 1995), residing in Block 6, Dong Kinh Ward, Lang Son Province, confided: "When I first graduated from high school, I was praised for my height and beauty, so I couldn't control myself and got involved in all-night parties. I received tips from wealthy people for drinking beer while being promoted, and I was lured into using methamphetamine."
“I think that, after the detoxification phase, treatment of the illness, and rehabilitation education, vocational training is the most effective 'therapy' method through action. Vocational training helps us recover physically, train our thinking, rediscover lost work skills, and most importantly, eliminate idle time – a factor that easily leads to negative thoughts,” shared trainee Nguyen Thi Ngoc N.
Meanwhile, trainee Vi Van H (born in 1985) boldly stood before the trainees and officers and soldiers of the Drug Rehabilitation Center to express his feelings: “I and the other trainees deeply understand that the opportunity to learn a trade and access loans today is thanks to the care and support of all levels and sectors, and the sincere management, education, and assistance of the officers and soldiers of the Lang Son Provincial Drug Rehabilitation Center. We understand that only with stable employment can we take care of ourselves, our families, and become useful members of society. After completing the rehabilitation program and returning to our localities, we will apply the knowledge and skills we have learned to labor and production; proactively seek legal employment. We are determined to stay away from drugs, resolutely not relapse; and strictly abide by the law and local regulations.”
Speaking with the trainees, Major Vu Quoc Truong, Head of the Lang Son Provincial Drug Rehabilitation Center, said that past failures are not frightening; what is frightening is when someone extends a hand and we refuse to stand up. The Party, the State, family, and society have never turned their backs on us. Today's vocational training, coupled with tomorrow's loan policy, are the most solid foundations that everyone is preparing for the trainees' reintegration into the community. Everyone should cherish this opportunity, strictly abide by the regulations, strive to learn the vocational skills they are taught, and turn their time at the Drug Rehabilitation Center into time to accumulate knowledge and skills, so that when they return home they will have a profession in hand, capital in their minds, and the confidence to rebuild their lives and become useful members of their families and society.
