Navas' arrival not only strengthens Pumas but also enhances the image of Liga MX. |
Marca reports that Navas is expected to arrive in Mexico City this week to complete his medical and sign his contract with Pumas UNAM. The move marks a new chapter in Navas' career and continues the wave of established European stars arriving in Liga MX.
Navas had earlier asked Newell's Old Boys to terminate his contract early to join Pumas UNAM. The veteran goalkeeper is expected to sign a one-year contract with Pumas, with an option to extend for a further 12 months.
Pumas UNAM are having a difficult start to the 2nd phase (Apertura) of Liga MX 2025, finishing bottom of the table with the worst defense, conceding 6 goals in just 2 matches. The arrival of Navas is expected to bring stability and experience to the Mexican team's defense.
With his form still at a high level, demonstrated by his 76% save rate at Newell's Old Boys in the Argentine National Championship this season, Navas promises to be a breath of fresh air in the Pumas defense. At the Mexican club, Navas will become teammates with Aaron Ramsey, former Arsenal and Juventus star.
Navas also becomes the latest big star to join Liga MX in recent months, lifting the league onto the world football map. Notably, Navas will face former teammate Sergio Ramos, who is currently the leader of the Rayados de Monterrey defense.
In addition to Ramos, Ramsey and Navas, Liga MX has recently welcomed other big names such as James Rodríguez (León), Ángel Correa (Tigres UANL), turning the tournament into an attractive destination for world stars.
