Cultural features in Thoi Thuan

Thoi Thuan is one of the typical cultural areas of Thoi An Dong ward, Can Tho city. The area has no more poor or near-poor households; the roads are spacious; the cultural and spiritual life is rich, security and order are stable... That is the result of the solidarity of the People's Committee, associations, unions and people in the area.

Thoi Thuan area has just completed a 200m long, 2.5m wide concrete road in group 2 with a cost of nearly 121 million VND contributed by the people. This road was constructed by the people in the group and soldiers of Regiment 917, Military Region 9, the military force of the ward, so construction costs were saved. Previously, this dirt road had deteriorated after many times of dumping dust and rocks, and was flooded every time it rained and high tides. Therefore, when the area proposed to build a concrete road using socialized resources, the people unanimously supported it.

Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Lanh, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Thoi Thuan area, said: “It is expected that next September, the area will upgrade 800m of road connecting the newly concreted section. Because this section has few houses, the road is long, and there is not enough funding, so only dusty rocks will be poured and the flooded sections will be reinforced. The area has proposed to the Ward People's Committee to support funding to upgrade more than 2km of concrete road and has been approved for medium-term investment capital for the period 2025-2030. In the near future, when the State invests in upgrading, the area's traffic system will be increasingly complete."

Over the years, the upgrading and repairing of damaged roads and the reinforcement of dikes against flooding have always been carried out in the Thoi Thuan area in many forms: from socialization to the State and the people working together. In 2024, the area concreted, patched, and repaired the Ong Ben canal road... Every month, branches, groups, and associations join the people in general environmental sanitation, planting ornamental flowers and trees, contributing to keeping the landscape clean and beautiful. In addition to propagating and mobilizing people to throw garbage in the right place, the area recently added a garbage collection route at Rach Gua.

In July, the People's Committee of the area coordinated with units to complete the project "Bright - green - clean - beautiful national flag street" 1.8km long on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, with 62 flagpoles, total cost of over 15 million VND and 15 working days from socialized sources. This is a project to welcome the 1st Congress of Thoi An Dong Ward Party Committee, term 2025-2030.

In addition, the area mobilized party members and local people to have at least one fire extinguisher in each household, open emergency escape routes, participate in fire fighting drills, establish fire prevention and fighting inter-family safety teams, etc. Through the first mobilization, 40 party members and households registered to participate. The national defense and security situation was maintained; functional forces promptly prevented and handled cases that caused insecurity and disorder in the area; propagated and mobilized people to actively prevent social evils and be vigilant against online scams.

In Thoi Thuan, the spirit of mutual love and support has always been promoted by the people in the area through many generations. When a family has a seriously ill or deceased member in difficult circumstances, the neighbors each contribute a little to help treat the illness or arrange the burial. For example, this year, the area mobilized 5 million VND to support Ms. Nguyen Thi Sung in Group 14 who suffered a stroke and is in difficult circumstances; gave 26 Tet gifts to members of the branch, group, association and households in difficult circumstances... In addition, from August 2024 to now, the area has also mobilized benefactors to support 5 disadvantaged households, each with 20kg of rice/month and health insurance for the whole year.

For children, every year the area coordinates with the Youth Union to organize a Mid-Autumn Festival and give gifts and cakes to children in the area. The area's scholarship fund annually allocates 2 million VND to reward students who pass the university entrance exam.

The area has a Don ca tai tu club and a Badminton club that operate regularly. When the ward organizes sports festivals or art competitions, the area mobilizes clubs and talented people in other subjects to participate, achieving many high achievements in competitions and tournaments.

The economic life of the people in Thoi Thuan area mainly depends on agriculture. With the spirit of hard work and solidarity in all movements, the people here are contributing every day to build their homeland and create cultural beauty at the grassroots level.
