The North East club has decided not to sign Aaron Ramsdale permanently from Southampton. Manager Eddie Howe is preparing for a major overhaul in the goalkeeping position.
Having just activated a one-year contract extension with Nick Pope, Newcastle are still actively searching for a new goalkeeper, with targets including Bart Verbruggen (Brighton), James Trafford (Man City) and Ewen Jaouen (Reims).

Aaron Ramsdale failed to convince the coaching staff that he was part of the team's rebuilding plan. He made 23 appearances on loan last season but was not offered a long-term contract.
Therefore, Ramsdale will return to Southampton after his short-term loan spell ends, bringing to a close his time with Newcastle.
Newcastle have also confirmed that their two reserve goalkeepers, John Ruddy and Max Thompson, will leave when their contracts expire this month. Ruddy (39 years old) has two caps for England, while Thompson is only 21.
Regarding personnel in the defensive line, Kieran Trippier is set to join Wolves. He and Emil Krafth have already said goodbye to the club.
Left-back Matt Targett, after a season on loan at Middlesbrough, will also leave Newcastle as a free agent.
Previously, Newcastle sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £70 million. With the addition of this sum, the St James' Park club is no longer under financial pressure.
Therefore, the chances of Sandro Tonali joining MU are quite low, unless Manchester United offer an irresistible price, around over £100 million.
