Russian war correspondent Dmitry Steshin reported that the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) actively used FPV UAVs to prevent Ukraine from building a new defense line near Slavyansk and Kramatorsk. According to Steshin, the Russian troops quickly discovered and destroyed the enemy's technical equipment parking lots. On his personal page, reporter Steshin wrote, “Now all attention is focused on the Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka fronts, because these are the last defensive strongholds in Donbass. The combat space is beginning to expand. According to our air reconnaissance, the enemy will not be able to hold two important cities: Slavyansk-Kramatorsk.”
Correspondent Steshin added that the Ukrainian side has been urgently organizing the construction of a new defense line in Donbass for several months. This defense line runs from north to south, parallel to the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk region, and ends in Pokrovsk. However, the above actions could not escape the eyes of Russian ground and air intelligence. And immediately, RFAF organized to prevent the AFU from organizing the construction of these new defense works in Donbass. Given the rapid developments on the battlefield, the Ukrainian side organized construction in three shifts a day, each using three or four excavators. The Russians used UAVs to destroy these devices while they were working, resting and doing maintenance. In short, Russia did not let Ukraine build this defense line, Steshin emphasized. It is worth noting that Russian intelligence has quickly discovered that Kiev is actively building up defense lines in various areas of eastern Ukraine. These targets, as well as construction equipment, are being attacked with Geran-2 UAVs.
According to experts' analysis, building Kiev's defense system will become much more difficult, since defensive fortifications are often built on open ground, under the constant surveillance of Russian reconnaissance UAVs. The difficulty now is that the Ukrainian side does not have much construction equipment; moreover, it has to be transported somehow to the work site. And this is not easy in conditions of tight control of communications and firepower by the Russian army.As the situation on the Donetsk front rapidly developed in Ukraine's favor, President Zelensky convened an urgent meeting of the AFU General Staff. Despite the measures taken and the transfer of reserve forces withdrawn from other fronts there, Kiev was unable to reverse the situation. The meeting considered three issues, but the most important was the situation in the Pokrovsk direction. According to the report of General Syrsky, Commander-in-Chief of the AFU, the situation was said to have improved, the Russian offensive had been stopped, and the breakthrough point had been practically destroyed. Although the AFU managed to stop the Russian advance, it did not destroy the breakthrough point. The core problem was that the Russians had now moved into a temporary defense, based on the AFU's system of field fortifications, on the Rubezhnoye - Zolotoy Kolodez line.
Rybar channel said that RFAF is fiercely repelling the counterattack of Azov Brigade, 92nd and 79th Motorized Infantry Brigades of AFU and continuously bringing more reserve forces into the fight. At the same time, Russian troops are starting to put pressure on the Shakhove area, aiming to continue expanding the flank. Thus, in two consecutive days of counterattacks with the strength of three brigades, the AFU side could not push back the Russian units from the positions they had occupied just a few days before, but also suffered heavy losses, when exposed to the fierce firepower of the RFAF. Also today, the Zaporizhia front direction is considered a difficult problem for Kiev, and it is also raised as a separate issue. There, the Russian troops continue to advance towards Stepnogorsk and try to break through to Orekhov via Malaya Tokmachka. Despite the Ukrainian units' repeated counterattacks, the Russian troops continue to advance.
The decision of the AFU General Staff towards the Zaporizhia front is still unknown, however, Ukrainian media citing the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense said that their forces “did not suffer any losses”, while the RFAF suffered “significant losses”.
