After many years of waiting, the investment project to build Rach Mieu 2 bridge connecting Dong Thap province and Vinh Long province has been completed and will be inaugurated and put into operation on August 19, 2025, bringing joy to millions of people on both banks of the Tien River and is a turning point in the infrastructure of the whole region.

Meet expectations
In recent days, wherever you go, you hear people asking each other “when will Rach Mieu 2 Bridge be open to traffic?” Social networks are also flooded with images of people checking in, in joy because the dream Rach Mieu 2 Bridge after more than 3 years of construction has been completed, helping to solve the persistent traffic jam problem.
The Rach Mieu 2 Bridge construction investment project is invested by My Thuan Project Management Board ( Ministry of Construction ), with a total investment of VND 6,810.11 billion, sourced from the state budget, and will be implemented from 2021 to 2026. The project is 17.6km long, including 7.95km through Dong Thap province and 9.65km through Vinh Long province.

Mr. Vo Chi Cong - Owner of Chi Cong Private Enterprise (Phu Tan Ward - Vinh Long Province) happily said: "Because the existing Rach Mieu Bridge prohibits the loading of vehicles with 3 axles or more at 2 time frames a day, when Rach Mieu 2 Bridge opens, transportation businesses like us will save a lot of costs in the cost of vehicles going and turning back to run another trip, saving the labor of drivers because they have continuous work and do not have to wait until it is time to cross the bridge".
Mr. Vo Van Ben (residing in Thanh Tri commune) excitedly said: "With Rach Mieu 2 bridge, people no longer have to worry about traffic jams. Especially for patients, it is easier to go to Ho Chi Minh City for medical examination, without having to wait for the right time to go."
With the opening of Rach Mieu 2 Bridge, many businesses selling ornamental flowers and seedlings in the area have also “breathed a sigh of relief”, because recently, Rach Mieu Bridge has been constantly congested on weekends or holidays. During peak trading seasons, trucks carrying ornamental flowers and seedlings sometimes have to spend 3-4 hours each way to cross the existing Rach Mieu Bridge…

Minister of Construction - Tran Hong Minh affirmed: “The Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project has been shortened by 6 months compared to the original plan, demonstrating the efforts and efficiency in the construction process. The proactive use of domestic materials and equipment has significantly reduced construction costs by about 50% compared to using imported sources. Regarding the quality of the project, construction technologies and techniques have been updated and effectively applied, meeting technical requirements. The use of modern equipment and machinery has contributed to improving the quality and sustainability of the project”.

Welcoming the efforts of the investor and contractors, the construction unit has shortened the project implementation time, during a recent visit to the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha affirmed: “The successful completion of the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge construction project proves that Vietnam has mastered the technologies related to road and bridge construction. Connecting traffic between localities will promote economic development and enhance economic cooperation. This project not only solves the traffic problem for the two localities but also has a broader significance for the economic development of the Mekong Delta region”.
Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee - Lu Quang Ngoi said: The operation of Rach Mieu 2 Bridge facilitates traffic and freight transport, ending traffic congestion at the existing Rach Mieu Bridge. The project contributes to completing the regional traffic network, meeting the increasing transportation demand on National Highway 60, ensuring national defense, security and economic and social development in the Mekong Delta region. At the same time, the project also helps shorten the distance from Ho Chi Minh City to the eastern provinces of the Mekong Delta such as Vinh Long, Can Tho, Ca Mau, etc. |
