The story recreates the image of the founders of the Doi Tam drum-making craft, the two brothers Nguyen Duc Nang and Nguyen Duc Ban, who made the drum to welcome the king after hearing that King Le Dai Hành was about to return to the village to perform the Tich Dien ceremony to encourage agriculture.

In the spring of the 7th year of Thien Phuc during the reign of King Le Dai Hanh (987 AD), he went down to the fields to perform the Tich Dien ceremony in Doi Son to the sound of drums played by the Nang and Ban brothers. It was precisely because of the thunderous drumming that the two men were later honored as "Thunder Scholars," and Doi Son is one of the few craft villages in the country that knows the exact birth and death years of the founder of the craft, Nguyen Duc Nang (925-990).
