The National Innovation Day 2025, jointly organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Finance, is a space to comprehensively connect all elements of the innovation ecosystem; spread the spirit of innovation, arouse the desire for development, determination to integrate internationally, towards the goal of making Vietnam a high-income country by 2045.
Speaking at the National Innovation Day celebration held on the morning of October 1, General Secretary To Lam said that the National Innovation Day is not only an important event, held for the first time, but also a call to awaken the Vietnamese intellectual source, affirming the potential for the country to break through, develop quickly and sustainably in the digital age.
“The world is moving at an unprecedented speed with artificial intelligence, big data, biotechnology, clean energy, and new materials. Any country that is one step ahead in science, technology, and innovation will have a strategic competitive advantage and move forward quickly and far; anyone who is slow to innovate will be left behind.
Vietnam has no other choice but to consider science and technology, innovation and digital transformation as the top important breakthroughs, the main driving force to innovate the growth model, realizing two 100-year goals: By 2030, becoming a developing country with an upper middle income; By 2045, becoming a developed, high-income country" , the General Secretary emphasized.
This is not only an objective need, but also a command of the times, determining the position of the nation in the next decade. No country can “take off” with low science and technology and slow innovation activities.

In 2025, Vietnam's innovative startup ecosystem will continue to make its mark on the global map. Vietnam ranked 55th in the Top 100 countries with developed innovative startup ecosystems; three major centers, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, are all in the Top 1,000 global innovative cities, with Da Nang rising 130 places compared to last year.
In 2025, Vietnam will maintain its position as 44th out of 139 economies in the Global Innovation Index (GII), ranking 2nd in the lower middle-income group and 3rd in ASEAN. Notably, the innovation input index increased by 3 places. This is also the second consecutive year that Vietnam leads the world in the "Export of creative goods" index.
In particular, Vietnam is one of the few countries implementing the Local Innovation Index (PII), thereby supporting localities in developing solutions and directing operations that are close to reality and suitable to development characteristics.
Vietnamese enterprises are shifting strongly to a development model based on intellectual property, affirming their position in the international market. FPT has gone from a "zero" start to a global corporation, present in more than 30 countries. Vinamilk maintains its position as the number 1 dairy enterprise in Vietnam and is in the Top 40 largest dairy companies in the world. Vingroup has grown to become a multinational corporation, investing in R&D centers in Vietnam and the United States in key areas such as artificial intelligence, batteries, biotechnology, electric vehicles and green energy....
The model of the Innovation Club is where farmers share knowledge and apply techniques to farming. Models such as Pun Coffee, Kym Viet, or rural women starting a business, student starting a business show that the vitality of innovation is closely linked to local culture and identity.
Amateur inventors like Nguyen Van Hat and Bui Van Ngo demonstrate that innovation originates from labor practices. Community innovation is the space where technology, knowledge and heart are in harmony, creating sustainable and humane development.
