Nearly 13 years ago, I - a newly graduated journalism student - was accepted by the leadership of Ninh Thuan Newspaper as an intern reporter. At that time, I was "a stranger to the country and the world", my professional skills and thinking were still immature, but I was full of enthusiasm.
In my first steps of “practicing” professional journalism, I spent 2 weeks carefully reading news and articles in many issues of Ninh Thuan’s print and electronic newspapers. The information in the newspapers helped me understand more about my hometown and the people of Ninh Thuan, as well as how to exploit topics, create headlines, write sapo, use words, take pictures to illustrate the work... from there, orienting my work.
After 2 weeks of diligently reading newspapers, I suggested "following" some of my colleagues to work at the grassroots level. At first, it was the trips to Phan Rang - Thap Cham City, then further trips to the districts of Ninh Phuoc, Ninh Hai, Thuan Bac, Thuan Nam, Ninh Son and Bac Ai. Every time I was "following" them to work, I always asked them about the topics I was about to deploy; listened to how they asked interview questions and carefully read the articles I "followed" when they were published to learn how to do the job. When I went to the grassroots level, I also took the time to discuss with the cadres and people about the strengths and differences of the locality to gain more understanding and better direction for my work.
In early 2013, I went and wrote my first works. The first article I wrote was about a good, responsible, and dedicated teacher in Thuan Nam district. The news and articles at that time were simple, not yet polished in every word, but they were a joy and motivation for me to continue to strive and work hard in the future...
It has been nearly 13 years since I worked for a local Party newspaper. Not only did it satisfy my childhood desire to “travel a lot”, but over the years, journalism has helped me understand and learn many things from life to grow up.
For me, journalism is one of the noblest and most difficult professions, and also a profession of creativity. Today's products are not the same as yesterday's and are also different from the following days. Therefore, journalists must always try to learn, always strive to improve, closely follow the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws to objectively and vividly reflect all aspects of political , economic and social life with passion and responsibility.
For many years, every day, I have spent time watching TV, reading printed newspapers, Ninh Thuan electronic newspapers and many other central and local newspapers. Information in newspapers helps me update the political, socio -economic, security and defense situation domestically, internationally and locally; grasp the viewpoints, policies and guidelines of the Party, policies and laws of the State to apply to my work. Reading newspapers is also a way for me to re-read my own articles (when they have been edited by the Editorial Board) to gain experience; learn from colleagues how to use vocabulary, take illustrative photos... Through reports, news and articles in newspapers, I also exploit a lot of data, find new topics to work more and better.
Since I "entered" journalism, along with improving my knowledge and skills, I have always sought to "keep the fire" of my passion. Journalism allows me to travel a lot, meet many people, experience and learn many interesting things, but it is also full of challenges and pressures when having to travel and work in many locations, terrains, weather conditions, sometimes being refused information, encountering people with uncultured behavior... And then there were times when I was "stuck" with words, time pressure and the hustle and bustle of life made my love for journalism gradually "fade". But after all, journalism helps me learn and accumulate more life experiences and understanding to improve myself, travel and write more and more quality journalistic works, objectively reflecting the vivid reality of life, contributing a small part in the construction and development of my homeland and country. That is the joy and motivation for journalists to stick with the profession!
After nearly 13 years of working together, I understand, appreciate and love my profession more. I also know that the road ahead is full of difficulties and challenges, especially the "competition" between traditional journalism and social networks. In addition to self-efforts, constantly improving knowledge and skills, maintaining professional ethics, we journalists really need the companionship and support from all levels of the Journalists Association in organizing training courses, fostering expertise and professionalism, especially journalism skills in the trend of digital transformation, the explosion of social networks and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in life... to have more orientation, actively and proactively innovate methods, improve the quality of creative activities, catch up with technology trends, do multimedia journalism, firmly stick with the profession, do better the role of "bridge", contribute to orienting public opinion, building our homeland and country to be increasingly rich, democratic, fair and civilized.
