On January 20th, the cast and crew of the film "The Scent of Pho" held a showcase in Hanoi to launch the project and share many behind-the-scenes stories from the filmmaking process.

At the event, when introduced by the MC as the "famous comedian from Northern Vietnam" appearing in " The Scent of Pho ," artist Xuan Hinh immediately clarified. He stated that he has always considered himself simply an artist named Xuan Hinh, and titles like "king of comedy" are just playful nicknames affectionately given to him by the audience and the press.

"I've never considered myself to be in that position. For me, being loved and remembered by the audience is the most important thing," he said.

Sharing his journey in the profession, Xuan Hinh observed that the art world has undergone significant changes in the context of technological development. While previously artists primarily reached the public through recordings and traditional stages, digital platforms like Facebook and TikTok now open up new spaces, bringing art closer to audiences, especially young people.

The artist expressed his delight at witnessing the increasing interest, exploration, and renewal of national cultural values among young artists. According to him, this is a positive sign in the State's policy of cultural industrialization.

"National culture is a precious treasure. As long as the younger generation loves and practices it, Vietnamese culture will never be lost," Xuan Hinh emphasized.

At over 60 years old, the artist doesn't prioritize fame, fortune, or fees, but rather the joy of doing his job and contributing to guiding the next generation. If he still has the health and encounters serious projects with rich cultural value, he is willing to participate, even challenging himself with new and more demanding roles. Therefore, his appearance in "The Scent of Pho" isn't about "competing" with younger generations, but rather about spreading traditional values to future generations.

"As an artist who rose from traditional culture and benefited from the legacy of our ancestors, I feel a responsibility to contribute to such a meaningful work," artist Xuan Hinh said, breaking down in tears.

Xuan Hinh burst into tears at the event.

Also at the showcase, director Minh Beta shared many stories surrounding his debut film project. He said he had thought long and hard about the film's theme. Looking back on his career, Minh Beta realized that everything he pursues stems from a natural and enduring love for his homeland, Vietnam. Therefore, when making his first feature film, he wanted to choose a universal theme so that any Vietnamese person could see themselves in it.

With that in mind, the team chose a theme that resonates with all Vietnamese people: cuisine , specifically iconic national dishes. The film explores stories and conflicts within multi-generational families arising from differences in lifestyles, habits, and perspectives between generations.

Minh Beta stated that the film's inspiration came from his personal experiences, while also reflecting the context of Vietnam entering a new stage of development, where people's living conditions are increasingly improving. For him, the image and flavor of traditional dishes like pho evoke a feeling of fullness and warmth – symbolizing a peaceful and fulfilling life after the difficult years of previous generations. He hopes the film will resonate with audiences through these simple values: the warmth of family, cultural pride, and the spirit of unity among Vietnamese people.

When thinking of the most prominent figures in Northern Vietnamese art, Minh Beta's first choice is Xuan Hinh. The artist's image is closely associated with Tet (Vietnamese New Year), with his charm, wit, and acting style deeply ingrained in the memories of many generations of viewers. From the script development stage, the producer tailors the main character specifically for Xuan Hinh.

However, artist Xuan Hinh immediately refused Minh Beta's first invitation. "Artist Xuan Hinh said he couldn't participate because of his age, but with my persuasive skills, I managed to get him to agree," Minh Beta shared.

Actor Tien Loc, who played Mr. Mui's son, recounted a "hilarious yet frustrating" experience when he transformed into an artist with a messy beard and hair. He spent time learning color mixing and practicing drawing techniques, but was shocked when filming began because the character's drawing was... worse than that of a first-grade student.

Meanwhile, actress Ha Huong plays Mr. Mui's daughter, who aspires to continue the traditional pho-making business but faces obstacles from her father's belief that the profession should only be passed down to sons. She sees the film as a multi-colored painting: "Despite conflicts and differences in viewpoints, above all, there is the father-daughter bond and family connection. The film is like a multi-colored painting where each piece points towards a single value: family love."

Meritorious Artist Xuan Hinh stayed up all night because of a strange offer after 50 years, revealing his fee . Artist Xuan Hinh stayed up all night deciding to accept his first film role at over 60 years old in the movie "Tet Mui Pho" (Tet with the Scent of Pho) alongside Thu Trang and Thanh Thanh Hien.
