On December 1, the Gia Lai Province Food Safety and Hygiene Department announced that a case of food poisoning due to eating toad eggs had just occurred in Klah Bang village (Ia Bang commune, Chu Prong district, Gia Lai province), causing 1 death and 1 critical condition.
The deceased was Kpa Chuong (19 years old). The other person, Ro Cham Song (17 years old), is currently being treated at the hospital. After receiving medical care, Song is out of danger.
Initial information, around 3:00 p.m. on November 30, the two people above along with Ro Cham Ai (20 years old) were working in the fields together. After that, all 3 caught a toad and steamed the eggs to eat.
About 30 minutes later, Chuong and Song experienced headaches, nausea, difficulty breathing, and jaundice. Their families quickly took them both to Gia Lai General Hospital for emergency treatment. However, Chuong died.
As for Mr. Ro Cham Ai, because he tasted a few toad eggs, he only had mild symptoms and self-induced vomiting, without going to the hospital.
On the evening of December 1, Mr. Dinh Van Dung, Secretary of Chu Prong District Party Committee, said that he had directed the commune to visit the victims of the poisoning and support the family in funeral arrangements.
