The Russian and Chinese foreign ministers met in Moscow to discuss a range of issues, including the United States and Ukraine.
"The discussions took place in a trustworthy and constructive manner, typical of Russia-China dialogue," the Russian Foreign Ministry said after the meeting between Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Wang Yi on September 18.
The agency said Wang informed Lavrov about the content of his discussions with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. The Chinese Foreign Ministry had previously described the meeting between Wang and Sullivan as "frank, substantive, and constructive."
"The parties discussed in detail the current situation in Ukraine, noting that efforts to resolve the crisis are futile without taking into account the interests and, in particular, without the participation of Russia," the Russian Foreign Ministry statement said.

"Both sides expressed closeness in their positions regarding US actions on the international stage, including actions that are anti-Russian and anti-Chinese," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Additionally, Wang and Lavrov discussed preparations for Russia's participation in the third Belt and Road Forum, scheduled to take place in Beijing, China, in October, although it was not confirmed whether President Vladimir Putin would attend the event.
Russian media reported that Wang was expected to meet with the Secretary of the Russian Federal Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, on September 19, before participating in trilateral talks with Mongolian officials.
Wang arrived in Moscow on September 18, beginning a four-day visit to Russia, after meeting with the US national security adviser in Malta. The White House said Wang and Sullivan discussed "US-China bilateral issues, regional and global security issues, the Ukraine conflict, the cross-strait issue, and many other topics."
Russia and China are strategic allies and frequently emphasize their unlimited strategic partnership, as well as economic and military cooperation. During his visit to Russia in March, Chinese President Xi Jinping affirmed that bilateral relations had entered a new era. On September 12, President Putin declared that Russia-China relations had reached an unprecedented level.
Experts believe that Russia and China are drawing closer amid escalating tensions with the West. Some Western officials believe that the partnership with China is one of the factors helping Russia cope with the series of sanctions imposed on the country.
