After a long time working underground, in 2020, HIEUTHUHAI entered King of Rap, which is considered a milestone in entering the mainstream market.

In his 5 years in the profession, the first 3 years were the period when the male rapper's name developed most steadily and stably. For more than a year now, he has had a breakthrough in his career, becoming an A-list star, but also when controversies arose, especially regarding his ability.

Rapper born in 1999 is often commented that his rapping ability is average, his singing is not good, and his music does not have much of an impression.

HIEUTHUHAI's release of a rap diss (attacking) Trinh sparked controversy. Many rap fans commented that the rap seemed to be about his level but was mainly about him showing off his assets, salary, and show schedule... instead of his actual ability.

The incident became even more noisy when rapper Binh Gold continuously released raps that were said to be aimed at HIEUTHUHAI. The two did not directly mention the other person, but the rap lyrics were understood to be attacking and responding to each other, becoming a hot topic of discussion in the rap world.

The music is not up to the heat

Objectively, from the King of Rap competition, HIEUTHUHAI - at that time not a famous rapper - shone.

Not only handsome appearance or outstanding height, he conquered the audience with bright, healthy and energetic love rap. In other words, from the starting point of his career, the Z generation rapper affirmed his strengths and personal musical color.

After the contest, HIEUTHUHAI quickly became famous. This is not difficult to explain with the attraction of the image he built at that time: a young, handsome man, with a warm, sincere personality, specializing in sweet and charming "flirting".

Underground hits like Cua, Turn on the music, Listen like love or mainstream hits like Ngu alone won big with this style.

After this period, HIEUTHUHAI released the album Ai nang phai bat dau tu dau do . The product was not really successful in terms of achievements (except for the hit Khong the say ) but brought him more value than the numbers: showing off his rap ability, expressing more musical colors (besides his forte of pure rap love), changing his image and expressing his feelings through art. This album was also highly appreciated by people in the profession.

Technically, HIEUTHUHAI is not weak. Basic techniques such as flow (rhythm), delivery (expression), cadence (intonation)... are solid, have their own style and are not below the average rapper.

After that, HIEUTHUHAI continued to diversify its core competencies by trying out fields such as TV shows ( 2 days 1 night, Say Hi Brother ), movies ( Chairman Delivery ) and fashion .

Looking back on the 5-year journey, HIEUTHUHAI has always made reasonable and smart moves in his career and in reality has brought high efficiency.

Still, his current A-list status and leap forward didn't come from just good decisions or music.

First of all, HIEUTHUHAI is the only Vietnamese artist to enjoy the tremendous heat from the two televised confrontations.

To date, the history of Vietnamese television has only recorded two collisions, including Rap Viet - King of Rap (2020) and Anh trai say hi - Anh trai vu ngan cong gai (2024). The effects of individual competitions such as Vietnam Idol, The Voice of Vietnam ... cannot be compared to these two events.

HIEUTHUHAI becoming a phenomenon at King of Rap and the Champion of Anh trai say hi are both dream opportunities for many artists, which cannot be bought with money or obtained through arrangements.

Next, the rapper appeared in all 3 seasons of 2 Days 1 Night - one of the most successful reality TV shows today.

In 2024 alone, he participated in 2 Days 1 Night and Say Hi Brother at the same time, appearing on television almost the entire year, contributing to pushing his recognition to its peak.

It is difficult to avoid controversy.

Currently, HIEUTHUHAI's personal brand value positioning in the market is class A while the salary can be up to class S.

He tends towards the image of an entertainer instead of a pure rapper - the right development direction, suitable for his inner self.

When he is at a high position on the music map, it is almost obvious that he becomes the center of controversy and rumors. Stars like Son Tung M-TP were criticized for singing live, and Den Vau was also judged for having one-dimensional rap and bland music.

In HIEUTHUHAI's case, although what he showed was not bad, part of the controversy came from the lack of "land" to prove his ability.

Rap is a street art with a thorny nature. Rap in the mainstream market is only a very small part to the public.

In other words, to be active in the mainstream, rappers almost have to "break their thorns"; fame is an advantage but also a "golden hoop" that prevents them from showing off their rap music.

This explains why HIEUTHUHAI's song Trinh is quite bland, lacking the necessary lethality of diss rap and not showing off technique.

In addition, the controversy also comes from the fact that a significant part of the 9X rapper's fame comes from the television industry.

Music and fame are two aspects that are not always compatible. If some artists like Hoang Thuy Linh, Wren Evans... have greater musical value than fame, HIEUTHUHAI represents a group of artists whose fame far surpasses their music.

This is not wrong, especially for an entertainer like HIEUTHUHAI, but it can become an excuse for him to be attacked.

HIEUTHUHAI is not at fault

Overall, what HIEUTHUHAI has done and achieved is quite worthy.

With a musical "fortune" built in just 5 years, regardless of personal or collaborative products, he seems to have not strayed from the passion of the early days.

In his current position, HIEUTHUHAI needs to be clearly aware that he is a versatile entertainer with a career development orientation completely different from a pure rapper.

In some ways, the birth of Trinh 's diss rap still has a childish, sulky tone, doesn't prove anything, and even makes the controversy about him worse.

Being aware of the right path to take helps the 9X rapper accept controversies more easily and at the same time give up what does not belong to him.

In addition, HIEUTHUHAI needs to focus on controlling his private life, which is inherently risky. From the lesson of the previous star - singer Son Tung M-TP, private life factors, including love relationships, family and friends, can completely become scandals that affect his career regardless of whether the artist directly caused it or not.
